SPEAKER BOEHNER THANKS PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR CANTOR’S DEFEAT

imageWashington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Is the Washington gridlock finally coming to an end?

In his first public comment on the primary election defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Speaker John Boehner thanked President Obama for his invaluable role in the victory of Tea Party-backed candidate Dave Brat.  Brat defeated incumbent Cantor in last week’s GOP primary elections in Virginia’s 7th congressional district.

In an unusual conciliatory tone, Boehner told reporters: “You have to understand, the American people are being squeezed by Obama’s policies. The economy is not growing. Incomes aren’t growing. We’re not creating enough jobs. And two-thirds of America have seen no increase in their wages but their food prices are going up, their gas prices are going up, and their health insurance prices are going up. And so there’s a lot of frustration that’s out there, and they look to Washington, and wonder why we can’t resolve these issues. And they’re hard to resolve when you’ve got a president who won’t engage.”

The teary-eyed Boehner concluded: “So, thank you, Mr. President. You have opened our eyes.  I look forward to working with you more closely in the final years of your presidency.”

End of gridlock.

TEACHER BRANDISHES KNIFE AT STUDENTS TO GET A RIDE TO JACK IN THE BOX

imageAltadena, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – A veteran high school teacher is in jail after he asked three students for a ride, holding a knife and ordering them to drive him to a Jack in the Box.

John Edward Maust, 34, a teacher at Arroyo Pacific Academy in Arcadia for the past 10 years, was standing on a sidewalk in Altadena on Saturday night when three 17-year-old boys from the academy drove by and stopped to say hello, Los Angeles County deputies said.

Maust appeared to be intoxicated as he walked toward them, the students told investigators. Maust asked for a ride, and the boys agreed.

Something Maust said in the car caused the driver to pull over and the students to jump out, but the teacher ordered them back, pulled a knife and told them to take him to the restaurant, deputies said. One of the boys was able to call 911 as they drove. image

In a signed statement provided to the police, Maust admitted to everything the students accused him of – except for one thing. He said he never asked to be taken to Jack in the Box. “I don’t even like their burgers and fries,” he said. “I asked to be taken to In-N-Out Burgers. When it comes to burgers, I have class,” he added.

STUDY: 70 PERCENT OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION REMAINS THIN

imageLondon, Great Britain (The Adobo Chronicles) –  Almost a third of the world is now fat, and no country has been able to curb obesity rates in the last three decades, according to a new global analysis.

Researchers found more than 2 billion people – or 3o percent of the world’s population – are now overweight or obese. “It’s pretty grim,” said Christopher Murray of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, who led the study. He and colleagues reviewed more than 1,700 studies covering 188 countries from 1980 to 2013. “When we realized that not a single country has had a significant decline in obesity, that tells you how hard a challenge this is.”

The good news is that 7o percent of the world’s population is still thin. Murray said there was a strong link between income and obesity; as people get richer, their waistlines also tend to start bulging.

The study then concluded that in order to maintain the “thin-ness” of the world’s population, governments and private employers need to keep incomes low.

The new report was paid for by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and published online Thursday in the journal, Lancet.

Good news for the world’s low-income population!
