‘LET IT GO’ FROM ‘FROZEN’ BACK ON TOP OF THE CHARTS, THANKS TO MANNY PACQUIAO

Los Angeles, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For a while, most people thought that the Oscar-winning song ‘Let It Go’ from the Disney film ‘Frozen’ has all but been forgotten. Many on social media have posted comments like, “If I hear that song one more time …”

Well, it’s baaaack! Thanks to world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao who is also a Philippine congressman and a karaoke addict, has recorded the hit song in Los Angeles. It will be released in a few weeks as a single and producers are predicting it to go platinum.

Although Pacquiao’s cover of the song hasn’t yet been released, the original recording by Idina Menzel, a.k.a. Adele Dazeem, has already climbed back to number one in the music charts. Critics are saying that once the Pacquiao version is out, it would easily replace the Menzel original in the top spot.

The producers of the Pacquiao single have come up with a brilliant promo campaign featuring Drake, the popular Canadian recording artist, rapper, songwriter, and actor. In the promo video, Drake mimics Pacquiao recording the song

“We want to have a surprise element, so we decided that the promo video would not show Pacquiao himself,” the producers said. “We want fans to build up expectation and excitement for the real thing,” they added.

PHILIPPINE VEGETABLE SHORTAGE SOLVED, THANKS TO THE U.S.

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Uncle Sam once again came to the rescue of its former colony, the Philippines –or is it the other way around?

The Philippine government has just lifted the ban on the importation of fresh vegetables from the United States. This, according to President NoyNoy Aquino, will solve the vegetable shortage currently being experienced by his country. “Our agricultural lands are just not producing enough vegetable supplies needed by our country,” Aquino said, “so we thought it necessary to spend millions of dollars to bring in fresh vegetables from the U.S., rather than support and subsidize our local farmers. ‘Imported vegetables’sound more appealing and appetizing.”

Newly-appointed agriculture Francis Pangilinan echoed his boss’ sentiment by teling reporters that “spinach (from the U.S.) sounds more sexy than the local kangkong.”

In response to a reporter’s question on what vegetables the Philippines will be importing from the U.S., Aquino suddenly burst into song, singing a verse from a famous traditional Filipino folk song:

“Bahay kubo (Nipa hut) kahit munti (small as it may be). Ang halaman doon ay sari-sari (Plants there are varied). Singkamas (turnips) at talong (eggplant), sigarilyas (winged bean) at mani (peanut), sitaw (green long beans), bataw (hyacinth bean), patani (lima beans).”

Meanwhile, Filipino Americans have complained that they are not able to procure many Filipino vevegtables in the U.S., especially those needed to cook pinakbet, a vegetable recipe akin to the French ratatouille. “So now, with the U.S. exporting its vegetables, it will even be harder for me to find my veggies here,” says Alejandra Talong of Daly City, California.

CHANGE OF VENUE: PHILIPPINES TO HOST 2018 WORLD CUP

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (The Adobo Chronicles) – The 2014 World Cup concludes with the final match between Germany and Argentina this Sunday. Already, all eyes are focused on the 2018 World Cup.

Earlier, Russia won the bid to host the next World Cup, but mounting concern about the country’s human rights record has forced FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) to cancel the winning bid and name an alternative venue for 2018 soccer games.

In an announcement that stunned the world football community, FIFA has named the Philippines as the new venue for the 2018 World Cup. Unknown to many, the Philippines does have its national football team named ‘Azkals,’ which is ranked 129th by FIFA. Whether or not the Azkals can qualify for the 2018 games is not an issue. Rather it is all about the venue.

This year, the Philippines will inaugurate the Philippine Arena located in Bocaue, Bulacan, just 14 miles north of Manila. It is owned by the filthy rich religious group, Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ), which accounts for just about 3% of all religious denominations in the country.

FIFA was very impressed with the enormity of the domed structure. Using the arena as the venue for the World Cup was the deal breaker in the decision to award the Philippines the hosting rights for 2018.

The 74,000 square meter indoor arena has a seating capacity of 50,000, way above the FIFA standard of 30,000 for its World Cup venues. Once completed, the Philippine Arena will be the largest domed structure in the world. In comparison, the Madison Square Garden in New York could only sit 20,000 people, while the Staples Center in Los Angeles has a capacity of 21,000.

Designed by Kansas City-based architecture firm Populous, construction is being carried out by South Korea’s Hanwha Engineering and Construction Corp. and is expected to be completed in time to mark the church’s centennial celebration this year.The church said it plans to use the arena for religious gatherings, except in 2018 when it will rent out the arena to FIFA.

It’s not only “more fun in the Philippines” (the Philippine Department of Tourism meme). It’s also bigger and better in this island nation.
