MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was just this past September when Vice President Leni Robredo chided the Duterte government, saying that it can no longer continue to downplay the country’s inflation rate.
Well, reacting to February 2019’s inflation rate report, Robredo who, just last year, was guest speaker at a forum at the London School of Economics, expressed deep concern at the continued decline of the Philippines’ inflation rate — from 5.1% in December of 2018 to 4.4% in January and 3.8% in February this year.
”Lubos na nakakabahala,” (It’s very concerning) she told The Adobo Chronicles. “It’s about time Duterte and his economic managers do something to prevent a further decline in our country’s inflation rate.”
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rappler CEO Maria Ressa has been sued for libel. Now she’s turning the table around. She is suing for libel.
Sources close to the embattled stock broker say that Ressa is planning to sue Manila Times columnist and book author Rigoberto Tiglao for libel.
”Tiglao defamed my character through his comments and accusations in his column. Today’s column is the last straw, so I’m suing him for libel,” Ressa told The Adobo Chronicles.
We asked Ressa what made her decide to finally sue Tiglao, and she said : “He called me a man!”
Moral of the story: if you’re not sure whether to call someone ‘con man’ or ‘con woman,’ err on the safe side, use ‘con it’ instead.
HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) – Previously, we reported that a British national wants to have Rappler CEO Maria Ressa’s Filipino citizenship should an online petitionasking the government to revoke her dual citizenship succeeds. To date, some 40,000 netizens have signed the petition.
Now, some 35 Hollywood actors and celebrities with Filipino heritage have added their names to the waitlist. They include singers Bruno Mars, Apl.De.Ap, Enrique Iglesias and Nicole Scherzinger, and actors Rob Schneider, Lou Diamond Phillips, Darren Criss, Tia Carrere and Tamlyn Tomita.
Who ever thought that Ressa’s dual citizenship was such a prized commodity?
