MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s final: Perfecto Yasay is now ex-Foreign Secretary.  This, after the Commission on Appointments unanimously rejected his nomination to the powerful post after he lied about his U.S. citizenship.

Now, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte must pick Yasay’s replacement.

Sources close to The Adobo Chronicles indicated that Duterte has narrowed his choices to a short list of 5 people, namely:

  1. Entertainer/Musician Jim Parades (Australia)
  2. Millionaire Loida Nicolas-Lewis (U.S.)
  3. Communist Party of the Philippines Founder Jose Ma Sison (Netherlands)
  4. Immigration Attorney Ted Laguatan (U.S.)
  5. Senator Grace Poe (Philippines)

Can you guess what all five alleged nominees have in common?

Is it going to be smooth-sailing this time around at the Commission on Appointments?

iPhone Sales Plummet, Thanks To The Republicans

CUPERTINO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Jose Bureau) – In its most recent quarterly report, Apple said it sold 231 million iPhones in the past 12 months. That’s almost 20 million power month or 667,000 per day.

Alas, in just the last 24 hours, iPhone sales dropped by almost 80 percent, mostly in the American market.

Thanks to the Republicans who on Monday night released a 123-page bill to repeal Obamacare. Analysts have said that the new plan will cost Americans more, cost taxpayers more, provide less coverage, and force millions to lose their coverage.

But hope is not lost.

Republic Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the powerful chairman of the House Oversight committee told the “Today” show yesterday morning that all Americans need to do is to stop buying iPhones and instead invest their money in their own healthcare.

But as one door closes, another opens.

eBay told The Adobo Chronicles that online business through their portal increased by 50 percent, mostly due to Americans selling their used iPhones so that they can pay for their healthcare.

All’s well that ends well.

Where In The World Is Jim Paredes?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipino-Australian Jim Paredes, Duterte critic and former member of the music group Apo Hiking Society, is missing!

After that viral video tape showing him berating a group of pro-Duterte youth at the EDSA 31 commeration, he hasn’t been seen around.  There are no indications that he has returned to Australia.

But finally, Paredes has given a clue on his whereabouts.

In a tweet posted several days ago, Paredes said:

But his Twitter message generated more questions than answers.  Both his fans and critics still have no clue where he is.

Speculations range from Paredes having joined the New People’s Army or Abu Sayyaf to being in an anti-Duterte rally where only 40 people were in attendance.  Others are saying that he could be vacationing in Brazil’s Amazon forest, where as a Filipino citizen, he doesn’t need a visa to visit.

Or maybe, he has decided to be a monk?
