MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – If you live in the Philippines and are reading this story, be forewarned that re-posting it on your Facebook or Instagram account or re-tweeting it is now a crime, punishable by fine and jail time.

Tired of being constantly criticized by The Adobo Chronicles, So What’s News (SWN), The Professional Heckler, Mosquito Press  and many others, President NoyNoy Aquino, with full support from the Senate and the House of Representatives, issued an Executive Order banning re-tweets and re-posts of satirical articles.

The Philippines’ Department of Justice (DOJ) is currently reviewing international laws on Free Speech to see if international sites like The Onion, The Borowitz Report and The Daily Currant, can also be banned from Philippine social media.

The idea for the Executive Order actually came from Turkey.

Recently, a provincial court in Turkey sentenced a college student, Meral Tutcalito one year in prison for the offense of “insulting a public official” by sharing a satirical news story about a regional governor on Twitter.

The trial was held in Adana, a southern Turkish province, after a complaint by the region’s governor, Huseyin Avni Cos, who discovered last year that he had been mocked in a photograph and headline on Zaytung, a Turkish site akin to The Onion.

PHILIPPINES TO BAN HELMETS FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDERS

8_ridersManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – In the U.S., the Helmet Law means bike and motorcycle riders are required to wear helmets to prevent head injuries in accidents.  In the Philippines, it means riders must take them off!

House Bill No. 4438, or the Helmet Ban Bill, will allow local government units in the Philippines to ban the use of helmets in their respective jurisdictions.  Bill author Celso Lobregat, representative from the province of Zamboanga, said that his measure is intended to curb crimes perpetrated by criminals riding-in-tandem (two to a motorcycle).

There has been a recent spate of incidents in which helmeted motorcycle riders snatch bags and purses from pedestrians.

“It is an easy choice for us,” Lobregat said, “we’d rather protect the purses and bags of pedestrians than the lives of motorcycle riders.  If they happen not to be criminals and figure in injury or fatal accidents, then so be it.”

An investigative report by The Adobo Chronicles shows that Lobregat himself was involved in a motorcycle accident when he was a teenager.  He wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered serious injurious to his skull and brain.

Could there be a connection between the lawmaker’s accident and his idiotic bill?

TEACHER BRANDISHES KNIFE AT STUDENTS TO GET A RIDE TO JACK IN THE BOX

imageAltadena, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – A veteran high school teacher is in jail after he asked three students for a ride, holding a knife and ordering them to drive him to a Jack in the Box.

John Edward Maust, 34, a teacher at Arroyo Pacific Academy in Arcadia for the past 10 years, was standing on a sidewalk in Altadena on Saturday night when three 17-year-old boys from the academy drove by and stopped to say hello, Los Angeles County deputies said.

Maust appeared to be intoxicated as he walked toward them, the students told investigators. Maust asked for a ride, and the boys agreed.

Something Maust said in the car caused the driver to pull over and the students to jump out, but the teacher ordered them back, pulled a knife and told them to take him to the restaurant, deputies said. One of the boys was able to call 911 as they drove. image

In a signed statement provided to the police, Maust admitted to everything the students accused him of – except for one thing. He said he never asked to be taken to Jack in the Box. “I don’t even like their burgers and fries,” he said. “I asked to be taken to In-N-Out Burgers. When it comes to burgers, I have class,” he added.
