In Metro Manila, Grab And Uber Face Stiff Competition

C54D51AD-E06C-41C4-9BEC-5E0973380535MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Uber and Grab have both revolutionalized public transportation, worldwide and in the Philippines.

Nothing beats the convenience of booking a ride on a clean, airconditioned vehicle especially in hot and traffic-ridden Metro Manila.

But regular taxi drivers are pushing back. They want their lucrative business back!

So they formed a new company called “Grabe.”

Basically, a commuter just hails a tax cab from anywhere and the Grabe taxi drivers will ask where one is going and dictates the flat rate without the use of the taxi’s meter.

If the customer agrees to the price, then fine.  If not, the customer needs to resort back to booking on Grab or Uber.

Hey, a free enterprise is part of a capitalistic society, so deal with it!

Philippines Renames Benham Rise Underwater Features

C3DA5C4E-F105-4186-90DD-9B7330D31A24.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Malacañang on Friday downplayed China’s naming of five underwater features in the Benham Rise, comparing them to food that have Chinese names but are widely enjoyed by Filipinos.

“Wag natin palakihin yung issue na nagbigay ng pangalan yung Tsina dun sa mga underwater features na yan,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

Marami naman talagang pangalan na binigay ang tsina no. Siopao, siomai, ampao, pechay, hototay. Pero lahat naman po yan, eh hindi ibig sabihin na sila’y nang-aangkin,” he added.

Nevertheless, in order to address the concerns of critics, Roque said that President Duterte has ordered the renaming of the five features to Adobo, Pancit, Kare-Kare, Sinigang, and Pinakbet.

All‘s well that ends well.

Organizers Move People Power Anniversary Celebration From EDSA To Baguio City

2BB1E747-6E17-412F-A9F3-48CC4DF75EA5BAGUIO CITY, Philippines.   (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – Year after year, event after event, the number of people attending pro-Aquino and anti-Duterte protest rallies has been diminishing.  This is a source of major, major disappointment for protest organizers who want to see massive crowds at these events.

Sunday, February 25 marks yet another anniversary of the EDSA People Power that toppled the regime of Ferdinand E. Marcos. Yet again, organizers have been very worried that only a few hundred people will show up.

So, in an effort to save face and to give the illusion that their anti-Duterte stance is alive and kicking, organizers have decided to move this year’s protest venue to Baguio City.

February 25 happens to be the day of the major street parade that is the culminating highlight of the month-long celebration of the city’s Panagbenga Flower Festival.  More than half a million people are expected to attend.

Organizers are encouraging anti-Duterte and Yellow minions to go up to Baguio to attend the February 25 celebration.

”We will be taking aerial photos of our protest along Session Road, Baguio’s main thoroughfare.  It will be an awesome display of people power,” they said.

Protest attendees are asked to bring a yellow-colored flower to the event — from sunflower to yellow rose. “Let’s paint the town yellow,” they added.
