Adobo Chronicles Challenge: Let’s Take Back Our Sidewalks

9E9D92DB-BA2F-4BAE-8AEB-71AD6C9025DA.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Rappler’s Maria Ressa may want to take back the Internet which she doesn’t own, but we the people would like to take back OUR sidewalks.

The Adobo Chronicles is putting out a challenge to all law-abiding and pissed-off citizens anywhere in the world who are sick and tired of arrogant, self-entitled and inconsiderate vehicle drivers who have been stealing our sidewalks through illegal parking.

The challenge:  each time you see an illegally-parked vehicle, especially one that obstructs pedestrian territory like crosswalks or sidewalks, take a photo and post it on Facebook or Instagram.  Be sure to capture the license plate in your photo.

We will then publish a collage of all your photos.

Please tag @TheAdoboChronicles so we can include your photos in our collage.

We also suggest you include the location of the illegally-parked vehicle.

This collage is one for the Louvre Museum in Paris!

Ex-Comelec Chair Andy Bautista Seeking Professional Opportunities In San Francisco

07E85C9C-6872-4965-8E9A-38B142E61045SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – The Philippine Senate has ordered the arrest of former Commission on Elections (Comelec) chair Andres “Andy” Bautista after he repeatedly failed to attend the Senate probe into his alleged unexplained wealth. However, the warrant could not be served because Bautista is out of the country.

Reports say that Bautista has been out of the country since November 21 last year to “explore professional opportunities” and “seek assistance for certain medical challenge” he was facing.

Bautista’s wife, Patricia, has been accusing him of allegedly amassing nearly P1-billion worth of unexplained wealth, and of owning more than 30 bank accounts with the Luzon Development Bank’s (LDB) amounting to P329 million.

Our investigative reporters have confirmed that Bautista is in San Francisco seeking professional opportunities. He has applied for a position as Executive Director of the Folsom Street Fair.

Folsom Street Fair (FSF) is an annual BDSM and leather subculture street fair held in September, that caps San Francisco’s “Leather Pride Week”. Sometimes simply referred to as “Folsom”, it takes place on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th Streets, in San Francisco’s South of Market district.

We wish Bautista the best of luck. It would be a great pride among Filipino Americans to have a Pinoy head the world’s largest leather event.

To Solve Traffic Mess, Senator Grace Poe Proposes Daylight Saving Time For Half The Filipinos

CEF5965F-98FE-463D-8EAE-B1CED776092D.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Today, most Americans will adjust their clocks in observance of Daylight Saving Time (DST). For this time of the year, it’s called ‘spring forward’ because they advance their clock by one hour.  In simple terms, they lose an hour for the duration of DST.

Well, Philippine Senator Grace Poe, who has been criticized for not giving President Duterte emergency powers to solve the nightmarish traffic in Metro Manil and elsewhere, has a brilliant idea.

She is proposing to establish a year-round Daylight Saving Time for half the Filipinos.

She explains:

”If half the Filipinos adjusted their clocks and advanced it by one hour, then not everyone will be going to work at the same time. Therefore, it will greatly ease traffic and travel time during commute hours.”

The Adobo Chronicles asked Senator Poe how she will determine which half of the population will be subject to DST.

“Simple lang yan (that’s quite simple). Those whose ages end in odd numbers (11, 21, 25, 59, etc) will advance their clocks.  All others will keep the normal time.”

Is this the beginning of the end of the country’s traffic problem?
