Why Duterte Would Fail In A Qualification Test For A U.S. Visa

IMG_3137WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has said that he has been denied a U.S. visa in the past when he sought to visit a girlfriend in America.

Now that he’s president, it would be very easy for him to secure a U.S. visa, right? Wrong! Not with Donald Trump’s proposed policy limiting legal immigration.

The Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act, or RAISE Act, favors people between the ages of 26 and 30 with a doctorate, high English proficiency and a job offer with a high salary.

In a simulated test (courtesy: Time magazine), one must earn a minimum of 30 points in order to qualify to apply for a U.S. visa.

Let’s see how Duterte fares in this test:

So there you have it, Duterte scores a total of 15 points, not even half of the minimum required to apply for a U.S. visa.

But it doesn’t matter, Duterte thinks the U.S. is a “lousy” country anyway.

Divorce Cases Pile Up In Manila

IMG_3189MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A strange phenomenon is happening in Manila.  In just the last few weeks, divorce cases have piled up in the courts which is very unusual for a Catholic country like the Philippines.

The Adobo Chronicles launched an investigation into this phenomenon, interviewing the spouses who initiated the divorce cases.

We discovered a common denominator among those who filed cases: their spouses had, at one point, checked in at a Manila hotel — Victoria Court.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the hotel raffled off new iPhone 7’s among those who have recently checked in at their property.  Then, it posted the names of the lucky winners on a giant billboard for all the world to see. It was inevitable that the winners’ wives and husbands saw the billboard as they drove along Manila’s major thoroughfares.

Moral of the story: don’t give away iPhone 7’s!

Justin Bieber’s Philippine Concert Contingent Upon Passing A Drug Test

IMG_3158MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  Canadian singer Justin Bieber has had many encounters with the law. And he has admitted being hooked on alcohol and drugs, although he claims he is now “clean.”

China has permanently banned Bieber from holding concerts in the country due to his “bad behavior.”

So what happens when he visits the Philippines on  September 30 this year for a concert at the Philippine Arena?

The Philippines has not banned the singer, but in keeping with President Duterte’s war on drugs, Bieber must undergo a drug test prior to his arrival in Manila.

“This is for his own safety and benefit.  We do not want him to have encounters with our local law enforcement if he is found to be under the influence of drugs,” a statement from the Office of the President said.

The Philippines justified its drug test requirement for Bieber by citing a similar demand for Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao prior to his fight with Floyd Mayweather.

Filipinos and others attending Bieber’s concert will also have to provide a certificate or notarized pledge that they are drug-free.

Ticket prices for the concert range from P3,000 (about $60) to P39,000 (about $780).

Meanwhile, The Adobo Chronicles has learned that Bieber’s front act for his Philippine concert is former APO Hiking Society band member, anti-Duterte Jim Paredes.
