MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippine eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi), also known as the monkey-eating eagle or great Philippine eagle, is an eagle of the family Accipitridae endemic to forests in the Philippines.

Among the rarest and most powerful birds in the world, it has been declared the Philippine national bird. It is critically endangered, mainly due to massive loss of habitat because of deforestation in most of its range. Killing a Philippine eagle is punishable under Philippine law by 12 years in jail and heavy fines.

The Philippine eagle is now joined in the endangered list by a newly-discovered bird species that is not found anywhere in the world.  It’s the Philippine Birddog.

Just like its name suggests, this unique animal is a cross between a bird and a dog. It was just recently discovered  in the forests of Palawan province. It is believed that there are only about two dozens of this species that exist.

It’s really more fun in the Philippines.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (The Adobo Chronicles, Honolulu Bureau) – The State of Hawaii has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration, seeking to block the president’s executive order that suspends refugee resettlements and temporarily bars citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

The lawsuit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Honolulu, comes one week after President Donald Trump issued the travel ban, which sparked nationwide protests, after scores of people were detained at airports across the country.

In a related move, the City and County of Honolulu has officially declared Trump a “persona non grata” which effectively bars him from entering Honolulu.

In a resolution unanimously approved by the Honolulu Board of Supervisors and immediately signed by Mayor Kirk Caldwell, Trump is also disqualified from doing business in the city and county.  As such, the Trump Tower located in Waikiki has been padlocked and prevented from further operations.

Arriving tourists and business people who have booked their accommodation at the Trump Tower will be barred from disembarking at the Honolulu International Airport unless they can show proof that they have re-booked their stay at another hotel.

For sure, Aloha has its limits!
