New Philippine Ambassador To The U.N. Hopes To Hone His English Language Skills

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Former lawmaker and television host Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. has accepted his appointment as the Philippines’ ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Malacañang said Sunday.

As the new UN ambassador, Locsin will be able to improve on his English and other language skills as he interacts with other dignitaries from across the globe.

Locsin is not particularly keen on his own national language, Tagalog, which he has described as “bullshitty” and “useless a tongue for debate.” His comments came right after the Philippine presidential debate earlier this year, in which he criticized some candidates for speaking in Tagalog.

Locsin has conducted his television show in English, albeit in a heavy accent.  But he hopes to hone his English skills during his stint as Philippine ambassador to the UN.

Trump Wants To See Hillary Clinton’s Birth Certificate, Claims She Was Born In Quebec

image.jpegNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – After years of questioning Barack Obama’s U.S. citizenship, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has finally accepted that the president was, indeed, born in Hawaii.

With this latest pronouncement, Trump has all but abandoned the birther movement he has spearheaded since Obama declared his candidacy for president.

Now, Trump has turned his focus on his rival, Hillary Clinton.

Speaking to adoring news reporters at the Trump International Towers today, Trump challenged Clinton to make public her birth certificate.

“She claims she was born in Chicago, but extensive research by my campaign interns points to the possibility that Clinton was born in Quebec, Canada.”

“In the interest of the voting public, I challenge my opponent to show us not only her full, detailed medical record, but also a certified true copy of her birth certificate,” Trump said.

The Clinton campaign has not responded to this latest Trump pronouncement.

ACLU To Sue Airlines For Discrimination

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a class action lawsuit against domestic and international airlines that have banned the use of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smart phones on board their flights.

The ban stems from reports that the phone has exploded while being charged.  Samsung has issued a recall of the phone.

Among the airlines that have banned the phone include the Emirates, Air Asia, Singapore Airlines, Quantas and Virgin Australia.

U.S. and Japanese aviation authorities have urged passengers not to turn on or charge the large-screen phones on aircraft while the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has told passengers not to stow the device in checked baggage.

In the law suit, filed on behalf of millions who own a Galaxy Note 7 phone, the ACLU said that the ban was a clear case of discrimination because owners of Apple iPhones and other smart phones are not covered by the ban.

“The law must be equally applied to everybody,” ACLU said.

Meanwhile, Apple is reporting that orders and sales for its newly-released iPhone 7 has increased 500% since the exploding Samsung phones made headlines.

Is this the beginning of the end of the iOS and Android competition?
