MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Singer Bruno Mars was the subject of heated Twitter disccussions this weekend, after he was accused of ‘cultural appropriation.’

Mars, who is half-Filipino, came under fire as part of an online roundtable discussion which saw writer Seren Sensei hit out at Mars — like sour grapes —for appropriating black music.

Sensei’s comments didn’t sit well with Filipinos so they are standing up for their kababayan (countryman).

This Sunday, one million Filipinos are expected to march on EDSA to show their support for Mars.

’We want to show to the world that Filipinos are not just great karaoke singers (which Sensei accused Mars of being), but that we are proud of our culture and will not allow anyone to insult us or someone of our own,’ a march spokesperson said.

The marchers plan to burn a giant effigy of Sensei.

EDSA is Metropolitan Manila’s main thoroughfare that has been the venue of massive protests, including that which ousted the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Philippine Senator Bam Aquino ‘Invited Back’ By The Vatican!

65DD9763-46C7-4D72-9726-BDA83B018036THE VATICAN, Italy (The Adobo Chronicles, Rome Bureau) – Pope John Paul’s security service has invited Senator Bam Aquino back to The Vatican, just days after the Philippine lawmaker had an audience with the Pontiff.

The Vatican had announced that the papal ring worn by Pope Francis is missing. Francis was last seen wearing the ring just hours before Aquino’s audience with the Pope.

CCTV camera recordings show the international dignitaries who visited with the Pope the day the ring went missing.

In one of the footages, Senator Aquino is shown  tighly grasping the Pope’s hand then kissing the papal ring.

”We are not saying that the Senator bit off the ring from the Pope’s finger,” a Vatican spokesperson said. “But we’re looking at all angles and are not prepared to make any accusations at this time. All we’re doing is sending courtesy invitations to persons of interest.  The Vatican will pay for their travel expenses back to Rome.”

Talk about an all-expense-paid travel.  No Philippine taxpayer money involved!

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Two members of Ninoy Aquino’s family were Presidents — a political reality that spanned 35 years. Yet nothing has been done during those years to solve the 1983 assassination of Senator Ninoy Aquino. Not by Cory. Not by NoyNoy.

Well, yesterday, on the day commemorating Ninoy’s death, the Aquino family, headed by former President NoyNoy made a stunning announcement on the murder case that triggered the Yellow advocacy in the Philippines.

In a single-sentence statement released at the Aquino residence on Times Street, the Aquinos said: “We now know who killed Ninoy — Rolando Galman.”

(Kris Aquino was not present at the reading of the statement; she was busy promoting her first major, major Hollywood film project, “Crazy Rich Asians.”
