After Nike, Bill Clinton Drops Manny Pacquiao

imageCHAPPAQUA, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Just days after Nike severed its relationship with Filipino champion boxer Manny Pacquiao for his disparaging comments comparing gay men and lesbians to (worse than) animals, former President Bill Clinton has distanced himself from the Filipino congressman who is running for a Senate seat.

The two are known to have a very cordial relationship, but all that is coming to an end.

Clinton said he cannot continue his friendship with Pacquiao because his views on homosexuality and same-sex marriage are contrary to Hillary’s position on the issue.

“Hillary and I cannot jeopardize her election as the next president of the U.S. by continuing our relationship with Pacquiao.

“I wish him the best in his quest to become a Philippine senator, but I have to withdraw my support for him and his senatorial campaign,” Clinton said.

San Francisco LGBTs Rally Behind Manny Pacquiao, Wants Him Honored At This Year’s Pride Celebration

imageSAN FRANCISCO, California ( The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Thousands of gay men and women in San Francisco are coming to the defense of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao despite his disparaging comments comparing them to animals. In fact, they want to honor him in the coming Pride Parade and Celebration in June this year, his opposition to same-sex marriage notwithstanding.

Each year, the San Francisco Pride committee looks to the LGBT community to help decide on parade grand marshals and other honorees. It is done by public voting.

LGBT community leaders are encouraging community members to vote for Pacquiao for the coveted Pink Brick Award.  If chosen, Pacquiao will be the first Filipino to be honored with this prestigious award.

Previous honorees include George W. Bush, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Boy Scouts of America.

Public voting ends February 29.

Senatorial Candidate Actress Alma Moreno Consoles Manny Pacquiao: No Worries, There’s Still Advan Shoes

imagePARAÑAQUE, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – BFF: Best Friends Forever. Parañaque City Councilor, former film actress and candidate for Philippine senator Alma Moreno took to her Twitter account today to console her friend and party-mate Manny Pacquiao after the latter was dropped by Nike from its product endorsement contract with the Filipino champion boxer.

Nike severed its relationship with the boxer and senatorial candidate after he made disparaging comments about gay men and women, comparing them to (worse than) animals.

Moreno and Pacquiao are in the same senatorial slate of Vice President (and candidate for president) Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA). All three are against legalizing samne-sex marriage.

In her Twitter account, Moreno told Pacquiao: “okay lang yan pareng @mannypacquiao, may Advan shoes pa naman” (That’s okay, friend @mannypacquiao, there’s still Advan shoes).

Advan shoes is a brand of Philippine-made sneakers.

It wasn’t clear whether or not Pacquiao was pleased or consoled by Moreno’s comment.
