Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach Poses With Borrowed Fur Coat From Macy’s, Causes Traffic Jam

imageNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles,  Washington Bureau) – It was supposed to be an artistic, uneventful photo shoot for Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, but things didn’t turn out so well.

On a cold night in the heart of Times Square, Wurtzbach posed for a photographer of a well known New York fashion magazine, donning a stunning black coctail dress and a faux fur coat draped over it.  She looked stunning.

Alas, two things went wrong:

The photo shoot caused a traffic snarl in all of Manhattan which became a virtual parking lot.  Every New Yorker wanted a glimpse of the Filipina beauty.

Then, when the photographer downloaded the digital photos for  submission to the magazine’s editors, he realized that he had forgotten to either remove or hide the coat’s price tag and laundry instructions (see photo).

The Adobo Chronicles learned that the coat was borrowed from Macy’s Department Store in New York for use in the photo shoot.

Now, the magazine’s editors had asked that the whole photo session be done all over again.  So, brace up for another traffic snarl, dear New Yorkers!

Nike Drops Manny Pacquiao, UNA Drops Jejomar Binay

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Apparel giant Nike has terminated its relationship with boxer Manny Pacquiao after his recent inflammatory comments about the LGBT community.

“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent,” the statement reads. “Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”

Pacquiao had compared gay men and women to animals – in fact, worse than animals.

Just hours after the Nike announcement, the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) dropped Jejomar Binay as its presidential standard bearer, a decision prompted by recent statements by the Vice President supporting Pacquiao’s position on same-sex marriage.

“We understand now that as a political party, we cannot discriminate against anyone, including the gay and lesbian community and that we must adhere to the separation of church and state,” an UNA memorandum said.

“Binay’s support for Pacquiao and his stand on same-sex marriage (which is basically following the Catholic Church’s position on the issue) will make it difficult for us to win in the elections,” the memo added.

Meanwhile, two other presidential candidates, Mar Roxas and Miriam Defensor-Santiago, are reportedly reconsidering their position.  They are known to oppose legalizing same-sex marriage in the Philippines. The other two candidates, Grace Poe and Rodrigo Duterte are in favor.

SARANGANI, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Facing mounting criticism and loss of product endorsement revenue from companies like Nike, Filipino boxing champion today announced that he was suspending his campaign to become senator.

Earlier this week, Pacquiao received tremendous flak because of his comments comparing gay men and lesbians to (worse than) animals.  He was responding to a question about same-sex marriage.

Pacquiao made the announcement during a telephone interview with broadcaster Karen Davila who pressed him on his constant bible-quoting to respond to issues on same-sex marriage.

The congressman from Sarangani, a devout Catholic, said that effectively immediately, he will quit the senatorial race and focus on his upcoming re-match with Timothy Bradley for the welterweight boxing title scheduled April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“Win or lose,” Pacquiao said, “I will pursue the priesthood and hopefully become the pastor of my local church in Sarangani. “I believe it is the Lord’s calling for me to pursue this religious path,” he added.
