MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – There will be no new casino built in Boracay despite the “provisional license” granted to a Chinese gaming firm, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on Wednesday

In a press conference in Hong Kong, Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte was clear in the interview he gave on Monday that he would not allow a casino in Boracay.

In addition, Roque said that when Boracay re-opens after rehabilitation, there will also be no karaoke or videoke bars.

”The President wants to restore the serenity of the beach resort, not to mention that videoke bars could be deadly for both tourists and locals.”

It has been proven that fatal shootings occur in many videoke bars in the Philippines, especially after patrons sing Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way.’

Barangay Officials Nationwide Demand Senator Trillanes’ Resignation

971B5CC7-55F6-4E93-870C-9A65ECDD0110MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The 42,000-member Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas (League of Barangays in the Philippines) is demanding the immediate resignation of Senator Antonio Trillanes.

The League said Trillanes insulted the barangays which are the core units of the country’s political and community administration. “The national government is the tree, and we are the branches,” it pointed out.

It all started when Trillanes posted on his Twitter account, a criticism of President Duterte’s statement on the closure of Boracay, saying in jest that he will just give lands to farmers and convert the resort into a land reform area.

In his tweet, Trillanes said that Duterte is just ‘pang-Barangay,’ suggesting that it is a low-point in the President’s administration.

The League threatened that if Trillanes didn’t resign by this weekend, it will organize a protest rally against the Senator to be held at the Manila Peninsula.  Manila Pen was the venue where Trillanes and the Magdalo group of mutineers stated a siege, demanding the ouster of then Presideng Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

What goes around comes around.
