ANN COULTER TO HOST BELGIAN WAFFLE BREAKFAST TO CELEBRATE U.S. ELIMINATION FROM WORLD CUP

imageNew Canaan, Connecticut (The Adobo Chronicles) – Belgium celebrated its 2-1 win over the United States in today’s World Cup match which led to the elimination of the Americans from the competition. In the U.S. , conservative columnist Ann Coulter was doing her own celebrating.

Coulter, in her syndicated column last week berated America’s fascination for soccer which she described as a sign of the nation’s moral decay. She wrote,  “One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans (referring to immigrants) will drop their soccer fetish with time.”

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Facing intense heat and uproar over his decision to exclude multi-awarded actress Nora Aunor from this year’s list of National Artists, President NoyNoy Aquino has found a way to shift the focus away from this latest controversy.

Aquino has declared Friday  and Monday (Thursday and Sunday, respectively in Brazil) as special paid holidays for all government and private workers in the Philippines.  Friday is when the U.S. plays against Germany and Monday is when the Netherlands faces Mexico in the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.  This is to allow Filipinos to watch both games.

Although the Philippines is not in the World Cup, two players — Jonathan de Guzman and Nick Rimando are of Filipino descent.  De Guzman who is half Filipino and half Jamaican is with the Netherlands team and Rimando who is Filipino-Mexican is with the U.S. team.

“I know many people are upset about my decision not to name Ms. Aunor as a National Artist, but I wish they would just let it go and focus instead on these two important dates where once again, Filipinos can prove to the world that they can excel in the field of sports,” Aquino said.

In signing the executive order declaring the paid holidays, Aquino urged his countrymen to cheer on the Pinoy football PIPA (sic) players while enjoying a four-day long weekend. (He, of course, meant FIFA).

Torbay, United Kingdom  (The Adobo Chronicles) – When Miss Philippines Megan Young won the title of Miss World last year, the United States protested, claiming that Young should have been considered a U.S. entry to the prestigious beauty pageant on the grounds that she was born in the U.S.

It’s a different story this year at the Mr. World Pageant held Sunday in Torbay, U.K.

Mr. Philippines, John Spainhour who is Filipino American, didn’t win the title. He didn’t even make it to the top 10 finalists.

Mr. America World, Inc.  the American franchise holder for the competition to select the U.S. representative to the Mr. World Pageant,  was unusually quiet and refused to answer reporters’ questions about whether it would also claim Spainhour as a U.S. entry like the U.S. did when Young won the crown.

The 2014 Mr. World title went to Denmark, with Nigeria and Mexico, taking the second and third spots, respectively.
