PHILIPPINE SENATOR TAKES CUE FROM MILEY CYRUS: PEDICURES FOR PORK BARREL SCAMMERS

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Feisty Philippine Senator Miriam Santiago is proposing an additional penalty for politicians found guilty in the pork barrel scam that has cost the country some Ten Billion Pesos in taxpayer money, and she is taking a cue from American singer Miley Cyrus.

Cyrus recently enraged netizens after she posted Instagram photos of her pet pig Bubba Sue getting a royal treatment — a pedicure.  The photos showed Cyrus holding Bubba Sue while another person was painting the pig’s hooves with engine-red nail polish. Many commented that this constituted animal abuse.image

Today, Senator Santiago proposed that every male politician convicted in the pork barrel scam be given not just a pedicure but also a manicure in pig pink nail polish — and not just ordinary nail polish, but permanent, indelible paint.

Santiago said this penalty will be a life-time reminder for the  pork barrel scammers of their horrible crime, while giving the scammed taxpayers a way to easily identify those who pocketed their money.

“These politicians are pigs,” Santiago told reporters, “and they should be treated as such.”

The senator however emphasized that her proposal is in no way an endorsement of what Cyrus did to poor Bubba Sue.

A LUXURIOUS RESORT ISLAND VACATION AWAITS FILIPINOS RETURNING FROM EBOLA-AFFECTED COUNTRIES

Caballo Island, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – We say again: It’s More Fun in the Philippines.

In the U.S., citizens returning from Ebola-stricken countries in West Africa are quarantined in tents and isolated in hospitals. In the Philippines, they are offered a three-week luxury vacation in a resort island just off Manila Bay.

An island hosting a Philippine Navy installation will serve as home for three weeks for 112 Filipino peacekeepers returning from Ebola-stricken Liberia. The members of the Philippine contingent will be quarantined on Caballo Island, located 2.6 miles east of Corregidor, when they return to the country on Nov. 11.

“The peacekeepers will enjoy their stay in that island,” Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc told reporters at Camp Aguinaldo yesterday. He said the soldiers can go fishing and nature tripping. If they choose to stay indoors, the peacekeepers can surf the Internet or watch their favorite cable channel.

Cabunoc said the island stay is a fitting reward for the Filipino troops who risked their lives to maintain peace in Liberia.

Meanwhile, Philippine Senator Miriam Santiago proposed a new bill designating Caballo Island as a quanrantine island for all corrupt politcians convicted of or facing graft and  corruption or plunder charges.  “Nothing is a more appropriate punishment than isolating all evil people in the same small island,” Santiago said. “I know they can’t stand each other, so that would be a better option than locking them up in individual prison cells,” she added.

MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES: NEW CAR BUYERS MUST ALSO PURCHASE PARKING SPACE

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The average cost to purchase a brand new car in the Philippines is 800,000 Pesos (approximately $18,000). Now, if a new bill in Congress is passed, it would cost the car buyer more than double that amount.

The reason?  No one will be allowed to buy a new car if there is no space to park it.

House Bill No. 5098 or The Proof of Parking Space Act, which was filed by Valenzuela City Rep. Sherwin Gatchalian, requires buyers of brand new cars “to execute an affidavit indicating the availability of existing parking space for the vehicle to be bought.”

The proposal is aimed at preventing cars from being indiscriminately parked in streets which is one of the factors that contribute to Metro Manila’s nightmarish traffic problem.

In anticipation of the bill’s passage, Toyota Motors which sells the most number of new cars in the Philippines, has  come up with a new buyers’ program whereby the cost of a new vehicle already includes a guaranteed parking space at the buyer’s choice of location. It’s a two for one deal that would start at 1.5 Million Pesos, depending on the car model chosen.

So, Toyota is not only in the car business. It is now also a real estate agent.

Another proof that ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines!’
