PRESIDENT AQUINO TO FIRE OVERWEIGHT CABINET MEMBERS

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino is serious about fulfilling his campaign promise to rid the government of corruption and maximize the efficiency of the bureaucracy. Aquino has consistently proclaimed that his administration will always pursue what he calls Daang Matuwid (straight path).

In recent months, Aquino’s critics have called for the resignation or firing of several of his cabinet members for alleged corruption or total inefficiency on the job, among them, Vice President Jejomar Binay, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio de los Reyes, Philippine National Police Director General Alan Purisima and Budget Secretary Florencio Abad.

Today, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that Aquino is weighing his cabinet members.

Any cabinet member who is found to be overweight — weighing more than 200 pounds or having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 25 — will be fired or asked to submit his or her resignation.

Finally, Aquino is showing some great leadership.

FILIPINOS JUBILANT AS KRIS AQUINO ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT IN 2016

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Millions of Filipinos rejoiced and took to the streets this week to celebrate Kris Aquino’s announcement that she is retiring from show business in 2016.

Aquino, the younger sister of Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino, is often referred to as the “Queen of All Media,” and is the current host of several TV shows including “The Buzz” and “Aquino & Abunda Tonight.”

Now on her 18th year in show business, Aquino  — holding back her tears — said that she plans to buy a franchise of a popular fast food chain.  Many are speculating that she was referring to Jollibee.

Jeepney drivers were sounding their horns, office workers were throwing confetti from their high-rise offices, and children were dancing in the streets of Metro Manila upon hearing the news.
Even members of the national police and military were firing bullets into the air.

“For almost two decades now, we’ve been putting up with all her theatrics, scandals, missteps and revelations of her personal and love life. At last, her screeching voice will be gone from the airwaves,” said one jeepney driver as he turned down the volume of his stereo to talk to reporters.

In the past, Aquino had compared herself to Oprah Winfrey, and told American actor Andrew Garfield during an interview that her son’s local film “My Little Bossings,” was a bigger box office hit than the Hollywood movie “The Amazing Spider-Man – 2”

2016 is also the year when the term of President Aquino ends.  With Kris stepping down, will it be the end of the Aquino era? Or perhaps, the continuation of a political dynasty…

MONDAY, OCTOBER 31 DECLARED A HOLIDAY IN THE PHILIPPINES

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Filipinos woke up this morning to the exciting news that President NoyNoy Aquino has signed an executive order declaring Monday, October 31 a special non-working holiday.

The news was carried by The Inquirer, the country’s leading daily newspaper.

The executive order was signed by Aquino’s Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa, Jr., who said that the President wanted to give Filipinos an extra day off to honor their dearly departed.  November 1, All Saints’ Day, is when Filipinos troop to cemeteries to pay respect to the dead.

But wait, isn’t October 31 a Friday?

Indeed it is. Apparently, The Inquirer mistakenly printed a news story from its 2011 issue.  October 31, 2011, was a Monday.

Aquino felt so bad about the newspaper’s goof that he went ahead and declared Monday, November 3 a special non-working holiday.

Have a great long weekend!
