MISS PHILIPPINES PIA WURTZBACH’S NATIONAL COSTUME FOR MISS UNIVERSE: THUMBS UP OR THUMBS DOWN?

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – After last year’s much-maligned national costume for Miss Philippines-Universe MJ Lastimosa, Binibining Pilipinas Charities is not taking any chances this time around.

Lastimosa’s national costume during the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant held in Doral, Florida  was likened to a giant meringue wedding cake.  It was designed by Colombian Alfredo Barraza.

When reigning Miss Philippines-Universe Pia Wurtzbach takes to the stage for the next Miss Universe pageant, there will be no wedding cake and no Colombian designer — just an ethnically and multiculturally-inspired gown by one of the Philippines’ top fashion designers.

The design, unveiled today at the offices of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, combines the elegance of a body-hugging beige gown with traditional butterfly terno sleeves, elements of the Singkil princess via a crown-like headdress, the intricate embroidery of the barong tagalog and the skillful weave of the banig (straw mat).  And yes, there are still some remnants of the flowers that adorned Lastimosa’s gown.

All in all, the elite fashionistas are calling the design a melting pot of Philippine culture, which will put Wurtzbach in strong competition with some of the best national costumes at the Miss Universe pageant.

PHILIPPINES IS FIRST COUNTRY TO SEND TRANSGENDER CANDIDATE TO MISS UNIVERSE BEAUTY PAGEANT

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Previously, we reported that owner Donald Trump disqualified Miss Japan and Miss Philippines from this year’s Miss Universe Pageant because both are biracial and do not represent the true diversity ideals of the international contest.

That left the Philippines with no entry to the popular pageant. The reigning Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, is half Filipino and half German.

Today, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, the local franchise holder of the Miss Universe Pageant, announced that it will be sending a replacement candidate to represent the Philippines.

She is Carla Marie Madrigal from Misamis Oriental province who earlier this month was crowned Queen Philippines Universe 2015 at a stunning transgender pageant held in Cebu City.  Madrigal wowed the judges and audience with her natural, inidigenous beauty, her poise and personality and her national costume.image

Filipinos have rallied behind Madrigal in the hopes of seeing their third Miss Universe. The other Filipinas who have held the title were Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margarita Moran in 1973.

Trump has approved the new Philippine entry to the pageant.

In 2012, Trump also approved the participation of a transgender contestant in the Miss Universe Canada Pageant, Jenna Talackova, who unfortunately fell short of the national title.

FOX NEWS REVEALS NEW REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE FORMAT

imageCLEVELAND, Ohio (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – The stage is set for the Republican presidential debate to be held at 9 p.m. on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. It will air live on the Fox News Channel with moderators Chris Wallace, Megyn Kelly and Bret Baier.

The GOP  debate will feature candidates who made it to the top ten on an average of the five most recent national polls, as follows:

1. Donald Trump
2. Jeb Bush
3. Scott Walker
4. Mike Huckabee
5. Ben Carson
6. Ted Cruz
7. Marco Rubio
8. Rand Paul
9. Chris Christie
10. John Kasich

Fox News today revealed a new debate format negotiated with Trump. It will mimic the Miss Universe Beauty pageant.

Each of the candidates will pick the name of one of the moderators who will ask the first question. Each candidate will have  10 minutes to answer their respective questions.

After all candidates have had their turn, the moderators will narrow the field to the top five candidates based on viewer votes via the Internet.

Then each of the five finalists will answer the one and the same question picked from Facebook, and will have 5 minutes to do so.  The candidates will have the option to use an interpreter.

Towards the end of the televised debate, viewers will again vote to determine the winner as well as the first, second, third and fourth runners-up.

Meanwhile, CNN, which is expected to host the Democratic presidential debate, says it loves the new format but doubts that it will be able to do the same for the Democratic debate since there may not be 10 candidates.
