FINALLY, A GREEN CARD FOR CONSERVATIVE COLUMNIST MICHELLE MALKIN

From top left, clockwise: Vargas, Vives, Malkin

Washington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – By now, everone knows who Jose Antonio Vargas is, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who, years ago came out as an undocumented immigrant, or American as he would like to put it. He has since become a staunch advocate for immigration reform.

But there’s also Ruben Vives, the Los Angeles Times reporter who won a 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Prior to his Pulitzer, Vives, who was born in Guatemala, was an undocumented immigrant and, like Vargas, he didn’t  know about it until later.

Pulitizer Prize-winning and other journalists are at the receiving end of both the country’s broken immigration system and President Obama’s immigration reform.

Like Michelle Malkin, conservative columnist . Althought not a Pulitzer Prize winner, she is the author of a book that justifies the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

Malkin, who like Vargas is from the Philippines, has been in the U.S. Illegally, or as we would like to put it — undocumentedly . Allegedly, she faked her marriage to a U.S. citizen in order to legalize her status . The arranged marriage was eventually discovered by then Attorney General Janet Reno (of the Elián González custody case fame in 2000).

Since then, Malkin has been living in the shadows (or as Filipinos call it, TNT, or Tago ng Tago – always hiding), writing her columns from an undisclosed location in the Pacific Northwest.

With Obama’s recent executive action on immigration, Malkin is among the estmated 5 Million undocumented immigrants who have been given relief from deportation. In fact, Malkin has just received her green card.

So now  she can come out of the shadows and openly attack Obama’s policies, including immigration reform.

All’s well that ends well.

OBAMA TO ISSUE EXECUTIVE ORDER ON DEPORTATION

obama-signs-executive-order2Los Angeles, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Comprehensive immigration reform legislation may be dead this year in the U.S. Congress, but it hasn’t stopped President Barack Obama from using his executive powers to try to fix the country’s broken immigration system.

In a speech today at a community college in Los Angeles, Obama said that American-based firms that use legal loopholes to avoid paying U.S. taxes have effectively renounced any allegiance to their home country. “These firms are essentially renouncing their American citizenship so that they can ship their profits overseas to avoid paying taxes – even as they benefit from all the advantages of being here in America,” the president added.

To deal with the situation, Obama said he will issue an executive order shortly that would speed up the deportation of officials and owners of these firms. “They will be the top priority of the Department of Homeland Security when implementing the country’s immigration laws, Obama said. He added that “we will keep and take care of the undocumented, unaccompanied children from Central America who crossed our borders, as well as the 11 Million undocumented immigrants now in the country but who do not have criminal records. We will focus our deportation efforts on the moneyed crooks who don’t value their American citizenship.”

REPUBLICANS SEEK COMPROMISE ON IMMIGRATION REFORM

imageWashington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Rep. Mike McCaul, R-Texas, who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, told Fox News Sunday that Republicans were considering a compromise with the Obama administration that would reinstate bipartisan talks and possibly a  bill that would establish true comprehensive immigration reform this year.

The compromise will not only authorize the release of  President Obama’s $3.7 Billion emergency spending request to Congress to stem the flow of children across the southwest U.S. border but permanently fix the broken immigration system of the United States.

“We are prepared to  give in to all of Obama’s proposed immigration policies, including the granting of amnesty to the estimated 11 Million undocumented immigrants currently living in the country in exchange for a no-nonsense border security plan,” McCaul said.

When asked by The Adobo Chronicles  what one major compromise the Republicans were seeking, McCaul said, “Very simple: close all existing gaps in the U.S.-Mexico borders in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.  But in addition, we would like to construct  steel fences in the waters on either side of the U.S. territory, in the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.”

In an analysis of the Republican proposal, it was determined that the proposed steel fences will be built at 12 nautical miles around the state of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean and 12 nautical miles around all eastern states that look out into the Atlantic Ocean.

The Obama administration is currently reviewing the Republican proposal and is expected to issue a statement in the next couple of days.

Will this finally put at end to the immigration impasse?
