MILEY CYRUS: ‘SENATOR TOM COTTON AND I ARE NOT DATING!’

HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Celebrity romances are always a favorite topic on social media and gossip tabloids. In most cases, news media are also in on them.

Last month, Philippine President Aquino was reported to be dating newly-crowned Miss Philippines Universe Pia Wurtzbach after the couple was seen having dinner — in the company of many other friends. Neither the bachelor president nor the beauty queen confirmed the dating status.

Now, singer Miley Cyrus is rumored to be dating Senator Tom Cotton, the same Tom Cotton who authored the  open letter signed by some 47 Republican senators to Iran, undermining the Obama administration’s nuclear negotiations with that country.

The Arkansas senator once again made headlines this week when he said the gay community needs to get a perspective, given that in Iran, one can get executed for being gay.

The rumors started when Cyrus posted Cotton’s phone number on her Twitter account asking her fans to call the senator to express why freedom is “important to us & our country.”

In a phone conversation with The Adobo Chronicles, Cyrus unequivocally denied that she and Cotton were dating. “Just because I have his phone number doesn’t mean we’re seeng each other,” Cyrus said.  She added: “Besides, I don’t date guys who wear purple shirts with a red tie.”

So there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth!

But you can still call Senator Cotton at (202) 224-2353 to express your outrage over his gay comment.

INGOLSTADT, Germany (The Adobo Chronicles) – Audi, the German automobile manufacturer that is well known for innovative luxury cars, has just unveiled a limited edition of its 2015 A8 model.

The Platinum edition has all the features of the A8 model, but it comes with a special built-in rice cooker in the rear seat console that would enable car owners to prepare the staple to be ready in time when they get home for dinner.

The special edition sedan will be available starting this summer but only in Japan and the Philippines, where rice consumption among the population is among the world’s highest.

This innovation is a very welcome news especially for the Philippines where heavy traffic is an everyday occurrence for the home commute.

The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MRSP) is $77,400 for manual transmission.  The option for automatic transmission will cost extra.

5-DECKER BUSES TO REPLACE MRT TRAINS IN METRO MANILA

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Relief is finally coming to the millions of daily commuters on Metro Manila’s light railway system, the LRT and the MRT.

The mass transportation system has been plagued by overcrowding, long and winding lines, accidents and constant passenger frayed nerves. Not to mention the latest unpopular fare increases which have prompted quite a few protest marches.

Acknowledging that the situation is all but hopeless, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Jose Emilio Abaya today announced that the government is giving up on the MRT and will revert to good old buses.

But in order not to make the already nightmarish traffic that’s a common daily occurence on Metro Manila’s roadways any worse than it already is, Abaya said that the government will replace the trains with 5-decker buses.

Initially, some 500 units of the tall buses were ordered from Volvo and are expected to arrive in Manila from Sweden  by April 1st this year. Each bus has a seating capacity of 250 passengers. Standing capacity will easily add another 250 passengers per bus.  Abaya said the 500 units should be sufficient to fill the gap that the MRT trains will create once they get de-commissioned.

The first deck of the buses will be reserved for senior citizens and people with disabilities, as well as for people who suffer from acrophobia, or the fear of heights. Acrophobics must present a doctor’s letter or certification in order to use the first deck.

Metro Manila may finally see the end to its public transportation woes and its mass transit system could become a model for the world.
