MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Filipinos are calling it the ‘Hand Jive 2.0.’ It’s a modern version of a dance craze which was popular in the 1950’s.

The original Hand Jive involves a complicated pattern of hand moves and claps at various parts of the body, following and/or imitating the percussion instruments. Hand moves include thigh slapping, cross-wrist slapping, fist pounding, hand clapping, and hitch hike  moves.

Hand Jive 2.0 evolved as a result of Senate hearings in Manila and surfaced when Philippine Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Baya was questioned by Senator Grace Poe on Metro Manila’s traffic congestion as well as problems with the Manila Metro Rail Transit t (MRT) trains.

The new dance craze consists of hand movements simulating cars and buses overtaking each other, and MRT trains speeding and slowing down as they approach or leave overcrowded terminals.

Forget the Macarena. Hand Jive 2.0 is now the “in” thing!

REVEALED: MARK ZUCKERBERG’S PLAN TO PHASE OUT FACEBOOK

MENLO PARK, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – What a difference a new-born baby makes.

To welcome the birth of their baby daughter Max, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan announced a new initiative in which they will donate 99% of their wealth to charity. Most of that money, in excess of $45 Billion, is coming from Facebook, the highly successful social media network founded by Zuckerberg.

With just 1% of his assets remaining — after the donation — there is no way Zuckerberg can continue to sustain Facebook operations, and that’s a big concern among the social media network’s more than 1.5 Billion users.

That concern  was just confirmed today as Zuckerberg announced that he will be gradually phasing out Facebook in the next 5 years or so.  He and Priscilla will be focusing on raising their daughter in an environment free of social media.

This latest announcement by Zuckerberg energized the people behind ELLO, the Facebook-like social media network launched last year but didn’t quite take off fabulously as anticipated.

So if you’re a Facebook addict or if your social life is totally based on Zuckerberg’s Internet platform, it’s time to make plans for the future  — the very near future in fact.

KRIS AQUINO COMPLAINS OF SUNBURN FROM HOSTING DUTIES AT APEC MEETING

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Television talk show host and presidential sister Kris Aquino used her social media account today to complain about her hosting duties during the just-ended Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit meeting in Manila.

Aquino and her three other sisters were assigned to host the spouses of the world leaders attending the summit in a noontime tour of Manila’s historical sites, including Intramuros, the walled city. Such duty is usually  performed by the APEC host country’s First Lady, but the Philippine president is a bachelor so the task fell into the hands of his sisters.

Posting a photo of herself with just a towel wrapped around her upper torso, Aquino revealed her sunburn resulting from exposure to the scorching tropical Manila sun.

In her post, she likened her sunburn condition to the plight of thousands of Filipino commuters who had to walk many miles under the sun for many days because of the closure of avenues and streets to vehicular traffic (including public transport buses and jeepneys) during the APEC summit. “Quits na tayo,” she told the commuters, a colloquial Filipino phrase that translates into “We’re even, fair and square.”

Aquino told The Adobo Chronicles that she learned a very important lesson as a result of her APEC hosting duties — to always remember to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 50.
