MANNY PACQUIAO SNUBS PHILIPPINE VICE PRESIDENT’S INVITATION TO BE HIS RUNNING MATE

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – In 2016, the Filipino people will elect a new president to succeed NoyNoy Aquino whose 6-year term expires that year.

While many politicians have hinted about running for president, no one has been more straightforward and definite about his presidential ambition than the current vice president, Jejomar Binay.  After all, it is in his family’s blood.  Binay’s son Jejomar, Jr. is the mayor of Makati City and his two daughters Nancy and Abigail are members of the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively.

This early, Binay has already formed a new political party called the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and has been quoted as saying in media reports that boxing champion Manny Pacquiao will be included in his new party’s senatorial lineup.  Pacquiao currently sits as a member of the House of Representatives.

In a Skype interview today with The Adobo Chronicles, Pacquiao vehemently denied that he was running for senator under Binay’s new party. “How is that possible, when my intention is to run for president,” Pacquiao said.

Binay’s strategy was to try to get Pacquiao to run for an elective post other than president, so that he (Binay) will run unopposed by a very formidable candidate such as the boxer congressman.  With his enormous popularity and wealth (pre-tax), Pacquiao’s odds of winning the presidential post in a nationwide election are better than 10 to 1, in his favor.

Binay is reportedly considering Senator Jinggoy Estrada who is now in jail facing plunder charges to be his vice presidential running mate.   Pacquiao, on the other hand, has hinted he might ask actress Nora Aunor to be his running mate.  (In the Philippines, the vice president is elected independently of the president, unlike in the U.S. where a vote for the president is also a vote for the vice president.)

JOAN RIVERS’ NEW BOOK BREAKS ALL BEST SELLER RECORDS

imageNew York, NY (The Adobo Chronicles) – ‘Diary of a Mad Diva’ is the title of a new book by comedian and fashion police Joan Rivers, and it has broken all existing records for bestselling books.

The book is number one in the bestselling lists of The New York Times, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, People Magazine, Time, AARP Magazine, Congressional Quarterly, The Onion, and even the Guinness Book of World Records.

Thanks to the publicity stunt Rivers did during a live interview on CNN where she stormed out of the set in protest of what she called anchor Fredricka Whitfield’s ‘negative questions.’

The video clip immediately went viral and resulted in a temporary shutdown of many Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram accounts.

But it was not just Rivers and her new book that benefited from the stunt. CNN’s declining ratings since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 suddenly shot up to the roof of its Atlanta headquarters.

Rival cable networks Fox and MSNBC suspect that CNN was in on the stunt.

San Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Rewind to 1966. As part of their world tour, the Beatles held concerts in Manila, playing in sold-out performances before thousands and thousands of screaming and crying Filipino fans, many sporting their idols’ mop head hairstyle.

Immediately thereafter, the screams of adoration turned into screams of ‘Go home, Beatles.’ The reason? The Liverpool boys reportedly stood up the Philippine First Lady and her three children, failing to show up for a scheduled visit at the presidential palace.

Imelda Marcos was beloved in her country and the snub was considered an insult not only to the First Family but to the entire country.

There has never been a resolution to this international controversy.

Well, maybe, it’s forthcoming.

On August 14, Paul McCartney will hold a concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Billed ‘Farewell To Candlestick,’ it will be the last concert to be held in this former San Francisco 49er stadium before it is demolished.  The 49ers have a new home stadium in Santa Clara.

The Adobo Chronicles learned that McCartney has invited the other surviving Beatle, Ringo Starr for a much talked-about reunion.

There’s more. Imelda Marcos has also been invited to grace the occasion which many are calling a ‘kiss and make up’ event. Marcos will reportedly sing a duet with McCartney – ‘Dahil Sa Iyo,’ (Because of You), an extremely popular Tagalog song and a favorite of Marcos.

All’s well that ends well.
