IMELDA MARCOS: FROM FIRST LADY TO PILGRIM

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – How times have changed. Imelda Romualdez Marcos, former First Lady and once considered the most powerful and influential woman in the Philippines, has turned pilgrim. Thanks to Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines and to Marcos’ home province of Leyte.

At last week’s mass celebrated by Pope Francis in Tacloban, Leyte, Marcos was present, not as former First Lady or Congresswoman or Beauty Queen, but as a pilgrim, just like the thousands of people who attended the papal event on a rainy and windy day.

Miracles do happen. Marcos was even seen wearing a yellow raincoat, a color closely associated with Cory Aquino (and the current president Noynoy) and the opposition that led to ouster of her husband Ferdinand and the family’s exile to Hawaii.

Imelda’s ID tag  says it all: “Pilgrim.”

WHITE HOUSE APOLOGY: ‘WE DIDN’T MEAN TO INVITE TWO FOXES TO LUNCH’

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – The White House today apologized for a major blunder during a luncheon it hosted for members of the media. It was a pre-State of the Union Address gathering to provide legitimate journalists and TV news anchors with advance highlights of President Obama’s speech.

“We sincerely apologize. We meant to invite only people, not animals, and certainly not foxes, to the lunch,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.

Two foxes were seated next to NBC’s Brian Williams, complete with place cards.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – President Barack Obama delivers his State of the Union Address (SOTU) before the U.S. Congress and the American people at 9pm Eastern time on Tuesday, January 20. He is expected to focus on middle-class economics.

Unlike in previous SOTU’s, this year’s will have a new feature – the red carpet ceremonies –  much like the Academy Awards (Oscars) red carpet.

The Republican-controlled Congress recently voted to hold the pre-speech fashion ceremonies, something that it copied from the Philippines’ State of the Nation Address (SONA).

All eyes will be focused on what Michelle Obama will be wearing. Or Michele Bachmann for that matter.

If you don’t have cable TV, you are out of luck. The SOTU red carpet ceremonies will be shown exclusively on CNN beginning at 7pm Eastern.  The CNN red carpet coverage will be hosted by CNN anchor Don Lemon and the late Joan Rivers’ daughter Melissa.
