CONGRESSMAN CLAY AIKEN, CONGRESSWOMAN JESSICA SANCHEZ?

San Diego, California (The Adobo Chronicles) –  There’s something special about being the runner-up in the reality TV singing competition ‘American Idol.’  With a few exceptions, runners-up seem to generally have better professional success than the winners in their respective seasons – in the recording business, stage, film, religious ministry, and politics.

Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken (who lost to Ruben Studdard) is now the presumptive Democratic nominee for North Carolina’s Second Congressional District seat. His Democratic opponent, Keith Crisco, unexpectedly died today.

Meanwhile, The Adobo Chronicles learned that Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez (she lost to Phillip Phillips) has filed her candidacy for the 51st Congressional District in Chula Vista, California. She has  decided to run as an Independent.

Political observers agree that Sanchez has the cards going in her favor because the district has a large Filipino and Latino population. Sanchez was born to a Filipina mother and Mexican father. The only odds against her is if the Filipinos and Mexicans do not go out and vote.

Both Aiken and Sanchez have an enormous advantage over their opponents. They do not even have to give speeches at their campaign rallies. They just need to belt out a tune or two.

Will the next Congress welcome Congressman Aiken and Congresswoman Sanchez?

STANFORD UNIVERSITY RESEARCHERS DISCOVER MUSIC GENE AMONG FILIPINOS

photo(1)Palo Alto, California – It’s all in the genes. It has been long established that the genetic makeup in people determines not only the color of their skin, eyes and hair but also their susceptibility to certain diseases and conditions.

Now researchers at the Department of Genetics of Stanford University School of Medicine have uncovered the gene responsible for making Filipinos such good singers and musicians. It’s called PH-13, found only among Filipinos.

Researchers studied over 2,000 individuals, 500 of whom were of Filipino heritage with the rest equally divided among Whites, Blacks and Native Americans. All respondents were pre-screened and auditioned for their musical ability.

At the conclusion of the six-month study which involved blood tests, MRIs of the vocal chords and eardrums, as well as invasive procedures to obtain genetic samples, the researchers announced the discovery of the gene responsible for musical talent.  While a few African Americans exhibited an almost undetectable level of the music gene, 100% of the Filipinos in the study tested positive for PH-13.

“We have finally found the answer to the nagging question on why Filipinos are always winning in music competitions,” the researchers said.

Could this also be the reason why almost all Filipino households have a karaoke machine?

KIM JONG-UN’S HAIRCUT INSPIRATION

imagePyongyang, North Korea –  The world is just now learning about a two-week old new law in North Korea mandating that all men must sport the same hairstyle worn by their young leader – short on either side and long and fluffy on top.

Today, however, the North Korean president admitted that the inspiration behind his distinctive haircut comes from two young Western celebrities, one male and one female.

Pressed by reporters to name his inspiration, Kim Jong-un did not hesitate to reveal the two celebrities : Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.
