DREAM CONCERT IN INDIANA: AMERICAN IDOL’S CLAY AIKEN AND DAVID ARCHULETA

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (The Adobo Chronicles) – Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), a.k.a. Anti-Gay Legislation, has many unintended consequences. But a music concert?

That’s right, openly-gay Clay Aiken and openly-Mormon David Archuleta have signed a contract to stage a joint concert to be held over the Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis.

Many of course will remember the duo as both runners-up in the reality show ‘American Idol.’  They are now recording artists and have their respective legions of fans and followers, on and off the music circle.

Aiken is just now just recovering from his unsuccessful attempt to represent North Carolina in the U.S. Congress. Archuleta is back on track after his two-year missionary stint with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile.

Aiken is against Indiana’s RFRA while Archuleta supports it, so that makes this dream concert the biggest deal yet in Indiana since Michael Jackson.

See Archuleta’s controversial tweets here.

Music fans are not going to boycott the concert because of one or the other singer. Both camps have vowed to support their respective idols. And that makes this concert a win-win situation. Even Indiana Governor Mike Pence is attending.

As of midnight last night, the concert, to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which has a seating capacity of more than a quarter million, has sold out!

The first 10,000 fans to arrive on concert night will be treated to free pizza from Indianapolis’ Memories Pizza.

AMERICAN IDOL UNDERGOING A MID-LIFE CRISIS

imageHollywood, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Auditions are now being held nationwide for Season 14 of American Idol  (AI)  but the reality show seems to be undergoing a mid-life crisis. Or shall we say ‘golden crisis?’

It all started when Steven Tyler became a judge on the singing competition.   Viewers considered him to be too old (read: senior citizen) to judge young contestants. Not that the other judges  weren’t close or already in their golden years.

Viewership & Contestants

In Season 1, the average age of American Idol viewers was 32. Today it’s 50 and beyond.

The only thing that has kept AI contestants within the teen and young adult demographic is the age cap of 28 years old.

But the sure sign of AI’s mid-life crisis is its newest sponsor: AARP.

CONGRESSMAN CLAY AIKEN, CONGRESSWOMAN JESSICA SANCHEZ?

San Diego, California (The Adobo Chronicles) –  There’s something special about being the runner-up in the reality TV singing competition ‘American Idol.’  With a few exceptions, runners-up seem to generally have better professional success than the winners in their respective seasons – in the recording business, stage, film, religious ministry, and politics.

Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken (who lost to Ruben Studdard) is now the presumptive Democratic nominee for North Carolina’s Second Congressional District seat. His Democratic opponent, Keith Crisco, unexpectedly died today.

Meanwhile, The Adobo Chronicles learned that Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez (she lost to Phillip Phillips) has filed her candidacy for the 51st Congressional District in Chula Vista, California. She has  decided to run as an Independent.

Political observers agree that Sanchez has the cards going in her favor because the district has a large Filipino and Latino population. Sanchez was born to a Filipina mother and Mexican father. The only odds against her is if the Filipinos and Mexicans do not go out and vote.

Both Aiken and Sanchez have an enormous advantage over their opponents. They do not even have to give speeches at their campaign rallies. They just need to belt out a tune or two.

Will the next Congress welcome Congressman Aiken and Congresswoman Sanchez?
