PHILIPPINES: Yellow Media Hacked!

IMG_2485.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipinos trying to tune it to their favorite television news programs this morning got the suprise of their lives.  Their TV screens went — not black — but yellow, bright yellow.  They could hear the news but all they could do was stare at the yellow glare.  Interestingly, only ABS-CBN and GMA news seemed to have been affected.

Subscribers to the national daily newspaper, The Inquirer, were also reporting that their copy of today’s paper showed a rectangular yellow box across the front page.

Then, Rappler was reported trying to fix a glitch that hit their online news site which also showed a yellow box on their home page.

As investigators were trying to identify the reason for the unusual phenomenon, a group calling itself ‘Anyaremous’ (no connection to the group Anonymous) claimed responsibility and said that the hack was in retaliation for a bill recently filed in the Senate that seeks to ban and penalize fake news.

This is a developing story. Check back with The Adobo Chronicles for updates.

Leni Robredo To Keynote 2017 Gilroy Garlic Festival In California

IMG_1676.PNGNAGA CITY, Philippines (Exclusive to The Adobo Chronicles) – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has confirmed that Leni Robredo will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California.

The Gilroy Garlic Festival is the biggest such event in the world during which garlic farmers and entrepreneurs showcase the versatility of this popular agricultural produce.

This year’s event will also feature musical entertainment, rides, food fares and a garlic conference.

The organizing committee of the conference said that they have invited Robredo to talk about her experiences with regards to the use of garlic in warding off aswangs, tikbalangs and witches in her home province of Camarines Sur.

Camarines Sur is believed to be the aswang capital of the Philippines 🇵🇭.

Aswangs are nocturnal half-human, half-winged blood-sucking witches that prey on people, especially children.  They are known to be repelled by the smell of garlic.

OPERATION LUGAW: VP Leni Robredo Appeals For Donations For Marawi City

IMG_1621.JPGQUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Just hours after President Rodrigo Duterte declared Martial Law in Mindanao following the terrorist siege of Marawi City, Vice President Leni Robredo activated her office’s relief operations. And what better way to do it than with something she is most expert in: lugaw.

Calling it “Operation Lugaw,” Robredo is appealing to Filipino citizens both here and abroad to make a donation to help the victims cope with the dire situation in Marawi and wherever some have chosen to evacuate to.

The goal of “Operation Lugaw” is to purchase 10 metric tons (10,000 kilos) of well-milled rice so that volunteers of the Office of the Vice President can cook lugaw (congee) for residents who have fled or are holed up in their homes because of the clashes between government troops and the terrorists.

“Because they are unable to leave their homes to go to the market, or cook their meals because of the lack of electricity, the Marawi folks rely on cooked food to nourish their families,” Robredo said. “Our volunteers are ready to cook lugaw.”

Robredo also asked the National Food Authority (NFA) to loan the OVP with enough rice supply for the congee while donations are still coming in.

It wasn’t clear whether Robredo made the appeal from her Quezon City office or if she is on the ground in Marawi overseeing the relief operations.
