ALS ASSOCIATION SUES THE HOT COP OF CASTRO FOR INFRINGEMENT (VIDEO)

Chris Kohrs, the Hot Cop of CastroWashington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – It was just a matter of time. The Hot Cop of Castro finally accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge and the ALS Association is not happy.  In fact, it is suing Chris Kohrs and the San Francisco Police Department for “infringement of an idea” and for “donation laundering.”

The Ice Bucket Challenge is the viral social media campaign aimed at raising funds for ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Thousands have accepted the challenge by dousing themselves with a bucket of ice and posting a video on social media. They then challenged others  to do the same within 24 hours or make a donation to the ALS Association (or both).

Kohrs had himself doused not once but five times with a bucket of ice at a fundraising event to benefit a memorial fund for the San Francisco Police Department.  The event was held at The Cafe bar in the Castro, the city’s gay district.

Upon learning of the fundraising event, the ALS Association filed a lawsuit for infringement and laundering, claiming that the hot cop stole its idea to raise funds for a different cause.

Attorneys for the SFPD responded that the ALS Association does not own the trademark for the Ice Bucket Challenge.  A quick check by The Adobo Chronicles confirmed that there is no such trademark or pending trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The ALS Association is now considering an out-of-court settlement where the proceeds from the Castro event will be split 50-50 between the Association and SFPD.

All’s well that ends well!

IN PHILIPPINE CITY, ORDINANCE PROMOTING SEXISM, AGEISM AND HOMOPHOBIA GOES INTO EFFECT

Mandaluyong City, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – In this Philippine city just a stone’s throw away from the capital, Manila, smart politicians have succeeded in passing a new ordinance that promotes sexism, ageism and homophobia — under the guise of curbing criminal activity.

Beginning this month, only first-degree relatives of motorcycle drivers will be allowed to ride with them. According to Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Alabos, officials based the ordinance on a law in Colombia, a country that also had rampant crimes committed by criminals riding motorcycles in tandem.

Based on the ordinance, only spouses, parents and siblings will be allowed to be with motorcycle drivers. Riders must bring their proof of relationship such as marriage certificates and identification cards. Violators who are caught during the six-month trial period will be apprehended.
Specifically, as clearly demonstrated in giant billboards (see photo) announcing the new ordinance:

– a man and a child (between 7 to 10 years old) as backrider CAN ride in tandem

– a man and a woman as backrider CAN ride in tandem

– a man and another man older than the specified age as backrider CANNOT ride in tandem, except if they are father-son

But ordinary Filipinos are smarter than the politicians.  Many  have eluded law enforcers by dressing up as women so that an adult man can ride in tandem with another man who is not his relative.  Others have put on mickey mouse and other children’s costumes to look like 10 year-old backriders.

Last week, The Adobo Chronicles reported that Philippine Senator Tito Sotto III has proposed a similar law that would apply to the entire country.

PHILIPPINE SENATOR WANTS TO BAN RIDING-IN-TANDEM ON MOTORCYCLES; SAN FRANCISCO’S DYKES ON BIKES PROTEST

San Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Tito Sotto III, an entertainer-turned-senator, is proposing a new law that would ban  riding-in-tandem on motorcycles.  In other words, the senator believes in  “one bike, one person.”

Sotto, the same senator who plagiarized Robert Kennedy’s 1966 Day of Affirmation speech in his remarks before the Philippine Senate in 2012, says that motorcycles and bikes were designed for just one rider. His proposal is meant to deter criminals from using motorcycles in their activities, including bag-snatching which is common in the crowded metropolis.  The senator, however, is open to making one exception to riding-in-tandem.  “It would be okay as long as the second rider is a first-degree blood relative of the motorcycle driver,” he said.

Upon hearing of Sotto’s proposal, San Francisco’s Dykes on Bikes immediately roamed the city in their motorcycles, gathering signatures for a petition that will be sent to the Philippines protesting the proposed ban.

The Dykes on Bikes are famous worldwide, especially during San Francisco’s Pride Parade.  The bike-riding lesbians traditionally lead the annual gay pride parade. “We commiserate with our fellow motorcycle riders in the Philippines — gay or straight.  No one should be allowed to infringe on our freedom to ride our bikes, solo or in tandem,” the petition stated.  Their male counterparts, the Mikes on Bikes have pledged to help the dykes in gathering signatures.

It is not clear whether the San Francisco petition will have any effect on the proposed ban, since Philippine senators are known for their independence and for their penchant in passing laws that make little to no sense.
