Anti-Liquor Ban Movement Grows In The Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – For more than 75 days now, many Filipinos have religiously followed government-imposed protocols to help their country deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. Including observing the liquor ban.

But there comes a point when people have had enough. They want their alcohol. Not the 75% or 99% used as disinfectant against the coronavirus.

However, peace-loving Filipinos are not resorting to riots like those that are spreading like wildfire across America. Rather, they are mounting their anti-liquor ban surely but calmly.

Pastor Elon Mask (not his real name), threatened to drink all the Mompo (mass wine) in the sacristy of his parish church, while appetizing on hostia (sacramental host.)

Chef Yeow Can Cook posted on his Facebook page the three top reasons why he thinks the liquor ban should be lifted immediately.

Kristian Bornagain, meanwhile, told The Adobo Chronicles he has been praying fervently to St. Edward, patron of pandemic victims, to protect him and his loved ones from the corona virus, while asking San Miguel (St. Micahel) to intercede with officials to lift the liquor ban.

Will these appeals fall on deaf ears?

Duterte, Trump Sign ABS-CBN Online Petition

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – An online petition calling for the renewal of the broadcasting franchise of ABS-CBN has garnered more than one million signatures!

Launched by the employees of the network, recently shutdown by the National Telecommunications Commission due to the expiration of its franchise, the petition appeals to members of the House of Representatives for the “immediate discussion and passing of the renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise.”

No less than Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and U.S. President Donald Trump have signed the petition.

Supporters and sympathizers of the network may sign the petition by logging on to kapamilyaforever.com.  They can vote as many times as they want, even if they are robots.

Community Quarantine Made Simple

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  Many Filipinos have complained of the confusion brought about by their government’s levels and guidelines on community quarantine as part of the fight against Covid-19.

Not even Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque or Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar could come up with a (actress) Kim Chiu-type explanation of ECQ, MECQ, GCQ or MGCQ.

In the interest of public service, The Adobo Chronicles has come up with a simpler infographic that translates the various community quarantine levels into color codes.

We apologize to our non-Tagalog speaking readers, but an English translation of the quarantine guidelines is not currently available.  But seek the help of a Filipino near you.
