‘LET IT GO’ FROM ‘FROZEN’ BACK ON TOP OF THE CHARTS, THANKS TO MANNY PACQUIAO

photo (6)Los Angeles, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For a while, most people thought that the Oscar-winning song ‘Let It Go’ from the Disney film ‘Frozen’ has all but been forgotten. Many on social media have posted comments like, “If I hear that song one more time …”

Well, it’s baaaack! Thanks to world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao who is also a Philippine congressman and a karaoke addict, has recorded the hit song in Los Angeles. It will be released in a few weeks as a single and producers are predicting it to go platinum.

Although Pacquiao’s cover of the song hasn’t yet been released, the original recording by Idina Menzel, a.k.a. Adele Dazeem, has already climbed back to number one in the music charts.  Critics are saying that once the Pacquiao version is out, it would easily replace the Menzel original in  the top spot.

The producers of the Pacquiao single have come up with a brilliant promo campaign featuring Drake, the popular Canadian recording artist, rapper, songwriter, and actor.  In the promo video, Drake mimics Pacquiao recording the song

“We want to have a surprise element, so we decided that the promo video would not show Pacquiao himself,” the producers said. “We want fans to build up expectation and excitement for the real thing,” they added.

Here is the promo video:

IN THE PHILIPPINES, A CIVIL WAR AMONG RIBBONS

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – A civil war is brewing in the Philippines. Not the kind of violent or destructive civil war that we have seen in many places worldwide.  Rather, it is a war of colors – colors of the ribbon.

Last week, amid declining popularity as confirmed by recent polls, the beleaguered President NoyNoy Aquino appealed to the Filipino people to show their support for him and his administration by wearing yellow ribbons.  The yellow ribbon has been closely identified with the political opposition in the country, especially during the time of the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos.  Yellow was the battle cry of Cory Aquino who ascended to the presidency when Marcos fled the country. Her son NoyNoy campaigned on yellow of course.

But NoyNoy’s appeal seemed to have backfired.  Not only are Filipinos not wearing as much yellow ribbon as Aquino would have wanted, but they are wearing other ribbon colors.

Those who believe that their loyalty is to the country and not to the president are wearing ribbons bearing the colors of the Philippine flag — red, white and blue.  Others are urging their countrymen to wear black or grey ribbons to symbolize the demise of decency and honesty in the ranks of political leaders — from senators and congressmen to the president.  Still, many are sporting peach-colored ribbons which they say represent the growing clamor to imPEACH Aquino for his actions recently declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

In the last few days, many Filipinos have also been seen wearing rainbow-colored ribbons.  At first, it was thought that they represented gay men and women who were against Aquino.  It turns out these were folks belong to Catholic churches who continue to express optimism that when the dust settles and all the political conflicts are finally resolved either by the snail-paced justice system or through people power, the Philippines will be back to normal just like most other democracies. “Doesn’t the rainbow always follow a heavy downpour?” they asked.

So if you plan to visit the Philippines in the near future, you may have to pick your favorite color and  hang out with others sporting the same ribbon that you have on your collar, front shirt pocket or  baseball cap. No matter how you look at it, “It’s More Fun In The Philippines!”

U.S. GAY POPULATION SHRINKING, ACCORDING TO A NEW GOVERNMENT STUDY

Atlanta, Georgia (The Adobo Chronicles) – While more and more states are recognizing same-sex marriage, a new government study has revealed a very disturbing trend: the U.S. gay population is shrinking!

Based on 2013 data from the Centers for Disease Control, 96.6% of U.S. adults identified as straight, 1.6% identified as gay or lesbian, and 0.7% identified as bisexual. The remaining 1.1% of adults identified as ‘‘something else,’’ stated ‘‘I don’t know the answer,’’ or refused to provide an answer.

The numbers are significantly lower than the decades-long statistics generally used to estimate the number of gay men and women, based on internationally-recognized theories by Alfred Kinsey, an American biologist and sexologist who is one of the authors of the Kinsey Reports. Parts of the Kinsey Reports regarding diversity in sexual orientation are frequently used to support the common estimate of 10% for homosexuality in the general population.

As a result of the new study, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC),  the largest LGBT national advocacy organization, has announced that it was  cutting its staff by 7% and reducing its annual operating budget by almost half. “With lesser gay men and women, it simply makes sense for us to scale down our programs and operations, ” an HRC spokesperson said.

Many LGBT Americans were relieved by the HRC announcement, saying that it is about time they received less mails and emails from HRC asking for contributions and donations.
