MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Manila is all set for this week’s Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit which will see some 21 world leaders gathering for this annual meeting.

The Philippines is leaving no stone unturned to make sure the meeting will be memorable and hassle-free for the expected  8,000 delegates from all over the world.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be closed to commercial traffic, as will EDSA, Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare. Classes and offices will be suspended, and the homeless population will be rounded up and sent to resorts outside of Metro Manila. Internet access will be cut except in APEC meeting venues and hotels where the delegates will be staying.

In its final  directive to its citizens, the Manila government announced it will close Roxas Boulevard, across from the famous Manila Bay, to vehicular and foot traffic to ensure APEC delegates will have uninterrupted access to and from the meeting venue.

The directive specifically states that romantic dates by the bay along Roxas Boulevard will be strictly prohibited. Violators will be fined and jailed.
