Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Offers Asylum To Maria Ressa

TORONTO, Canada (The Adobo Chronicles, Toronto Bureau) – Believing 100% in Maria Ressa’s public statements that she is being harassed and intimidated by the Duterte government simply because she is a journalist, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affrairs Chrystia Freeland has offered the Rappler CEO political asylum in Canada.

Freeland, in a post on her Twitter account, said that Canada is deeply concerned for the security of safety of Ressa, adding that the harassment and intimidation of journalists have no place in democracy.

Freeland also called for due process  despite the fact that it is precisely because of due process that Ressa remains a free women after posting bail in according with that due process.

Ressa is reportedly seriously considering the asylum offer, although she says she first needs to put up Rappler for sale so that she can use the proceeds for her new, free life in Canada.

Ironically, Canada is open to take in Ressa but has refused to take back the Canadian trash that was exported to the Philippines under the guise of recycled plastic.

Pope Francis Invites Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte For Private Visit At The Vatican

THE VATICAN (The Adobo Chronices, Rome Bureau) – In a move that stunned Vatican insiders as well as the politically-inclined Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Pope Francis has formally invited Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte for a private visit this month.

Duterte, who once publicly cursed Francis and who is widely criticized for his war on drugs, says he is leaning towards accepting the invitation.

Recently, the Pope urged governments to combat the production and distribution of drugs and said that it is the task of governments “to face with courage this fight against the traffickers of death.”

The invitation is a big disappointment for the CBCP heirarchy who, like Duterte’s critics and the biased mainstream news media, have accused the President of engaging in extra-judicial killings in connection with his war on drugs.

”Whatever happened to the Fifth Commandment (Thou shall not kill),” former CBCP President Socrates Villegas asked.

The Vatican told The Adobo Chronicles that the Pope wants to seek the advice of Duterte on how best to stop the proliferation of drugs around the world.  A papal spokesperson said that many world leaders have tried but failed to solve the illegal drug trade, including in the Pope’s native Argentina.

Rappler Accuses Duterte Of Operating A Panda Ring

33440478-0BAC-49A8-BCC3-0DE7952817CCMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In one, hard-hitting analysis by a certain JC Punongbayan, Rappler accused Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte of establishing a Panda Ring — you know, pandas —  those lovable, furry, black and white animals found only  in China (and some lucky zoos).

Punongbayan was commenting on the 29 agreements signed by Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the latter’s state visit to the Philippines. He called the Philippine President’s move “excessive.”

But let’s think positive.

This could mean that the Manila and other zoos across the country will soon be hosts to Chinese pandas.
