MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In a new Social Weather Stations (SWS), the Filipino people are showing grave concern about President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, telling him, “You’ve Gone Too Far.”
Eight five percent of survey respondents agreed that the controversial leader needs to slow down.
“We can’t take it anymore,” the Filipinos said, “having free health insurance, free medicines, free education, free irrigation for our farmers, free nutritious food for our poor kids, increased pension and more work security. Please give his some time to breath before you come up with more good news for us. We’re not used to this.”
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has called on the public to join the protests on Friday against the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes’ Cemetery).
Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, head of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on the Laity, said the Catholic Church is in solidarity with the protesters, especially those who are martial law victims.
The announcement by the CBCP seems to be aimed at countering a different and huge rally today to protest the Catholic Church’s huge financial investments. Reports indicate that CBCP has 30 Billion pesos invested in the Bank of the Philippine Islands(BPI) alone.
A spokesperson for the anti-church rally who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being excommunicated, said that Filipino Catholics are tired of the Church meddling in politics while enjoying tax exemptions and accumulating huge investments in the financial market.
The spokesperson said the Catholic Church needs to walk the talk by helping the poor and downtrodden. “It should divest itself of its billions of pesos and distribute the money to those most in need,” he said.
The venue of the anti-church rally has not been disclosed. “It will be a surprise,” the spokesperson added.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – American taxpayers will be saving $400,000 a year during Donald Trump’s presidency because he has said he will not take a salary during his term. But the savings will also be offset more than three-fold because of Trump.
The presidential-elect recently announced that his wife Melania and their 10-year old son Barron will not be moving into the White Houseand remain in their New York residence at the Trump Tower.
It costs $1.4 Billion a year to protect the first family, according to official government figures. So we did the math.
That $1.4 Billion would double since security protocols for the family will happen in two separate places, Washington, D.C. and New York.
In addition, security measures around the Trump Tower could also cost the New York government big bucks since it is planning to cordon off the building and most likely reroute traffic in the area.
What a waste of American taxpayer dollars. What an inconvenience to New Yorkers
