UPDATED: Want A Free Donut? Buy A Copy Of Inquirer

Dunkin' Donuts Santa Monica Grand Opening

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) -President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday, April 15 (Doha time), challenged business tycoon Lucio Tan to pay his unpaid taxes as he slammed oligarchs in front of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

The President also said Dunkin’ Donuts, which he said is owned by the Prietos of the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI), has its own tax deficiencies.

Previously, The Adobo Chronicles reported that the PDI has launched a new business model aimed at boosting the sagging popularity and credibility of its daily newspaper.

Every copy of the paper bought at stores and newsstands now comes with a free Dunkin’  Donut.

The Prieto Family owns the PDI and the local franchise of the popular American  donut chain. It also owns the franchises of Shakeys, Tia Maria, Pazzo Gelato, Gourmet Palate, Via Mare and La Tosca.

PDI is known for its biased, sensational reporting especially in its coverage of President Duterte and his administration’s policies and programs.

So, for your daily fix of sugar-coated news, buy the Inquirer.

What’s to come? A free slice of pizza or a scoop of ice cream for every copy of PDI ?

Leni’s Newest Sideline Career: Commercial Endorser

IMG_0182LONDON, The United Kingdom (The Adobo Chronicles, London Bureau) – Leni Robredo herself said that the only duty of the Vice President is to wait for something to happen to the President. So she has to engage herself in various careers while waiting.

Magazine cover girl. Resource speaker for some shady international human rights groups. Poster girl for public transportation.  And the latest? Commercial endorser!

An unnamed business enterprise based in the United Kingdom has sought the endorsement of Robredo for a unique commercial item: Holy Water from the River Jordan where Jesus Christ was baptized, contained in a 24K-gold, hand painted bottle.

This limited-edition product is being marketed only to Filipino nationals, with guaranteed free delivery.

Photo above shows Robredo, who was also baptized “First Lady” by the commercial venture, receiving a free sample of the product.

Georgina Hernandez, Robredo’s spokesperson, told The Adobo Chronicles that although the photo advertisement was taken in front of the seal of the Vice President of the Philippines, this is 100% a personal —  not an official — endorsement.

Donald Trump To Supporters: #BoycottHawaii A Huge Mistake

HONOLULU, Hawaii (The Adobo Chronicles, Honolulu Bureau) – There is a growing movement among supporters of President Donald Trump to boycott the Paradise islands of Hawaii.

The movement, represented online by the trending  hashtag “#BoycottHawaii,” came just days after a Hawaii federal judge in Hawaii issued a sweeping freeze of President Trump’s new executive order hours before it would have temporarily barred the issuance of new visas to citizens of six Muslim-majority countries and suspended the admission of new refugees.

In a 43-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Derrick K. Watson ruled that Trump’s  order was meant to discriminate against Muslims.

But instead of being happy about the boycott movement, Trump criticized his own supporters saying that what they are doing is a “huge mistake.”

“Obviously, these supporters have never been to Hawaii, especially on the island of Oahu.  Otherwise, they would have known that I have a Trump International Hotel just a stone’s throw away from Waikiki Beach,” the president lamented.

“The boycott movement is hurting my business,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, upon learning of the the #BoycottHawaii movement, Native Hawaiians and residents of the islands gave a huge sigh of relief.  Their response? “Mahalo (thank you) for not contributing to polluting the natural beauty of our islands and the Aloha spirit of our people. No offense to us!”
