MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Paper or plastic? If Senator Risa Hontiveros had her way, grocery and other shoppers will no longer have a choice. Plastic will forever be banned.

Hontiveros has filed a Senate Bill aimed at reducing the damaging effects of plastic on the environment.

But her bill goes beyond shopping.

Not only will store owners be banned from using plastic bags. Plastic surgeons will have to find alternative materials for their profession and business.

Hontiveros’ bill is very timely as it comes just days after Xander Ford made his big reveal on national television — a total facial makeover courtesy of an infamous plastic surgery clinic.

The Adobo Chronicles tried to reach Ford for comment on the proposed bill, but broadcast personality (and wife of defeated presidential candidate Mar Roxas) Korina Sanchez refused to give us Xander’s cell phone number.

Ford’s big reveal happened on Sanchez’s TV program, “Rated K” on the ABS-CBN Network.

Miss Venezuela Banned From Entering U.S.

IMG_5247.PNGWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Donald Trump used to own the Miss Universe Organization which sponsors the annual Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.

But now that he’s president, Trump wants nothing to do with the next Miss Universe — if it happens to be Miss Venezuela.

Trump’s new travel ban covers 8 countries, including Venezuela.

The Miss Universe Organization is headquartered in New York, and the winning beauty is provided an apartment in the Big Apple throughout her reign.

Unless it is Miss Venezuela.

Venezuela has accumulated more Big Four international pageant titles than any other country, including seven Miss Universe winners, six Miss World winners, seven Miss International winners and two Miss Earth winners.

Chito Gascon Issues Statement After CHR Budget Is Restored By Congress

IMG_5013.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A tearful Chito Gascon thanked Congress for the news that the 2018 budget of the Commission on Human Rights will eventually be restored in the final version of the national budget.

It will be recalled that the House of Representatives had slashed CHR’s proposed budget from P678 Million to P1,000.

Here is the full statement from Gascon:

I can finally have a full night’s sleep after hearing the great news that my 2018 budget will be restored by Congress.  I am so emotional right now, and I am eternally indebted to our Congress persons for finally recognizing the role that CHR plays in ensuring human rights for every Filipino.

Now I can finally take comfort in the fact that I will have the funds to get a regular shave from my Makati City barber.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
