Duterte State Visit: China To Import One Million Tons Of Adobo From The Philippines

img_6562MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – While the rest of the world is still trying to figure out what exactly President Rodrigo Roa Duterte meant by “separating from America,” both China and the Philippines today announced a new bilateral trade deal that will begin immediately.

It is well known that China is the world’s largest steel exporter and the Philippines has been importing Chinese steel to the tune of about 1.2 Million metric tons per year.

Under the new trade agreement, the Philippines will double its steel imports from China.

In return, China will import 1 Million metric tons of pork and chicken adobo this year, subject to a 15 percent increase in the coming years.

The Philippines needs the steel to boost its infrastructure boom while China says that there is a huge demand for Filipino adobo among the Chinese people who just can’t perfect the art of making adobo.

Duterte told The Adobo Chronicles that the new trade agreement is reflective of a truly bilateral partnership which he said was lacking in his country’s decades-long relationship with America.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Four years ago, no one saw it coming — that a foul-mouthed, non-traditional politician in the person of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte would be elected next president of the Philippines.  But someone did: retired US Supreme Court Justice David Souter.

In a recorded video of statements made four years ago in New Hamphire, Souter said:

“Augustus became emperor not because he arrested the Roman Senate.  He became emperor because he promised that he would solve problems that were not being solved.”

As if to address the many persistent problems that have been going on for a long time in the Philippines, he added:

“Some one person will come forward and say, “Give me total power and I will solve this problem.”

“…and the day will come when somebody will come forward and we and the government will, in effect, say, “take they ball and run with it. Do what you have to do.”

And the rest is history.  Rodrigo Duterte was elected president and the Filipino people gave him the ball and run with it.
