Presidents Xi Jinping And Rodrigo Duterte Discuss Baguio City’s Anti-Profanity Ordinance

3639DD6F-4FC2-4C94-9692-014FB35F7F77.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit had resulted in wide-ranging agreements between his country and the Philippines, including a joint exploration in the disputed territories in the Philippine Sea.

The two Presidents, Xi and Rodrigo Duterte, also discussed the new ordinance in Baguio City — the summer capital of the Philippines — which prohibits cussing and cursing in schools and business establishments catering to young people.

The ordinance doesn’t care which cuss language is used — English, Tagalog, Visayan or whatever. It’s profane language just the same.

But the two leaders agreed to urge Baguio City officials to amend the ordinance to exempt the Chinese language from the profanity restrictions in recognition of China and the Philippines’ mutual recognition of free speech, academic freedom and free enterprise.

Baguio officials could not be reached for comment as most of them were reportedly at SM Baguio Mall for the on-going 3-day sale and enjoying the newly-opened amusement park next door.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s time for Rappler and its star reporter Pia Ranada to shine!  Word has it that they are strong contenders for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Journalism for their coverage of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the Philippines.

She’s been maligned.  She’s been embarrassed by President Duterte (remember the SPO4 issue?). She’s been banned from entering Malacañang.  But now, Ranada is on her way to international fame.

Informed sources told The Adobo Chronicles that Ranada and Rappler are almost a shoo-in for the next Pulitzer Prizes.  They are being honored for their “in-depth, investigative, courageous and comprehensive coverage” of the Chinese leader’s recent visit to Malacañang.

Specifically, Ranada is being cited for her series of Tweets about the state dinner hosted by Duterte for Xi at the Presidential Palace last night.

Here is the series of Tweets that may put the much-coveted Pulitzer in the bag for Ranada and Rappler:

Anti-China Filipino Activists Want Chinatown Permanently Closed

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chonicles, Manila Bureau) – A few dozen Filipino acitivists are protesting the Manila visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping on the grounds that China is a threat to the Philippines’ sovereignty in the light of the South China Sea territorial conflict, as well as growing Chinese investments in the country.

The activists don’t want the Philippines to have anything to do with China and are demanding that everything that reminds the Filipinos of China and the Chinese be permanently erased from the country’s landscape.

What landmark bests represents Chinese influence in the Philippines than the oldest Chinatown in the world — Chinatown in Binondo, Manila.

The protestors want Manila’s Chinatown permanently closed and replaced by an SM Super Mega Mall Village that would put the Mall of Asia to shame.

Little do the protesters know that the owner of SM is Henry Sy. Filipino. Chinese.
