Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte Confirms His Death, Says He Rose Again After Three Days

Honeylet Avanceña holds a Sunday edition of Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Davao Bureau) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday confirmed rumors that he had passed away.

”It’s true,” Duterte said, “but I rose again after three days.”

To prove he is back alive, Duterte’s companion, Honylet Avanceña posted a live video of the couple reading last Sunday’s edition of the Philippine Star.

Duterte’s resurrection greatly bothered those who have been advocating for the late Corazon Aquino to be named the next Filipino saint.  The former President has not been credited with any miracle, as required by the Roman Catholic Church before proclamation to sainthood.

With Duterte rising from the dead on the third day, many Catholic believers say this was a miracle, a sign from God, and that he should now be proclaimed a living saint.

There was no word from Pope Francis who is currently visiting in the Middle East whether or not he is going to make that proclamation.

The award is named after a famous restaurant in San Francisco — a favorite hangout of members of SOLIDAR — The Stinking Rose — located on Columbus Street.

Congratulations, Senator Hontiveros!

Baguio City Officials Mull Over Converting Burnham Lake Into An Ice Skating Rink

Frozen Chicago River, left, and Baguio City’s Burnham Lake, right

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) –  The Chicago River in Illinois, U.S.A. literally froze this week as temperatures dipped below zero degrees.

This gave the ever-efficient city officials of Baguio City led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan a brilliant idea: to convert the murky Burnham Lake in this Philippine summer capital into an ice skating rink.

Baguio’s own temperature dipped to 9 degrees this week, sending chills to both residents and visitors who are in town for the opening of the month-long Panagbenga Festival.

The conversion plan involves dredging the man-made lake, refilling it with salt water and installing an underground ice maker.

Many ice skating enthusiasts were elated over the plan, but others, including operators of rental paddle boats in the lake were not happy.

Domogan said the conversion is part of the city government’s overall plan to rehabilitate the city which could eventually lose its tourism industry because of overcrowding, traffic and deterioration of natural parks.

We may soon see the next Filipino Olympic skating champion among our Baguio youth!
