LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles,  San Francisco Bureau) – Filipino champion boxer Manny Pacquiao promised that he will allow Timothy Bradley to knock him out on April 9 if the American two-time former WBO welterwieght title holder campaigns for him on television.

Pacquiao is running for a seat in the Philippine Senate in the May 9 elections, but strict rules from the elections body (Commission on Elections, or COMELEC) prohibit candidates from using television airtime to campaign if it creates an undue disadvantage to other candidates.

So Pacquiao made a deal with Bradley, and Bradley agreed.

During their televised pre-fight news conference on Wednesday, Bradley publicly voiced his support for Pacquiao’s senatorial bid. “He is truly, truly, to me, the only one out there that’s gonna do right for the Filipino people,” he told reporters.

So, if you planning to watch Saturday night’s Pacquiao-Bradley fight in Las Vegas, we’re sorry to be a spoiler: Bradley will win by a knockout in the 7th round.

A deal is a deal.

HB 1523 Drops All The S’s From Mississippi

JACKSON, Mississippi (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed House Bill 1523 into law on Tuesday, and while supporters believe the new law will protect people’s right to “religious freedom” from “government discrimination,” critics argue that it’s the “most sweeping anti-LGBT” legislation in the U.S.”

But there is one fine print provision of the new law set to take effect July 1st, that is not being reported in the media: HR 1523 drops all the S’s from the state’s name.

Legislators unanimously agreed that the double S’s in Mississippi will only remind people of the very issue the law wants to ban: same sex.

So effective July 1, the state will be renamed Mihhihhippi, with the H’s standing for “heterosexual.”

After Dropping Manny Pacquiao, Nike Picks up Mar Roxas And Leni Robredo

imageBEAVERTON, Oregon (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Weeks after it severed its product endorsement relationship with Manny Pacquiao for his public comments about the LGBT community, Nike today announced that it has entered into a similar endorsement contract with Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo.

Roxas and Robredo are the Philippines’ Liberal Party candidates for president and vice president, respectively, in the coming May 9 elections. (Pacquiao is running for senator under a different political party).

As it unveiled its first Roxas-Robredo running shoes, Nike officials told The Adobo Chronicles that they liked the fact that the tandem is promoting Daang Matuwid (straight path) as part of party’s campaign platform against government corruption. “Nike, as a responsible corporate entity, hates corruption,” they said.

The new Nike product, which picks up the signature yellow color of the Liberal Party, is equipped with a special sensor designed to prevent the users from walking or running a crooked path, Nike said.

The right shoe has Roxas’ name on it, while the left has Robredo’s.
