SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The City and County of San Francisco has learned a thing or two from the just-concluded visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines. One has to do with adult diapers.

During the Pope’s public appearances in Manila, police and traffic enforcers were required by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to wear adult diapers so that they didn’t have to leave their posts to answer the call of nature. The move ensured that there would be no unnecessary interruption in the performance of police and traffic duties. It was a way to effectively deal with a crowd of almost 6 Million and the lack of portable toilets.

San Francisco’s annual Pride parade and Folsom Street Fair attract hundreds of thousands of spectators, and police and traffic enforcers always end up short-handed. So, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, taking his cue from Manila, ordered the San Francisco Police Department to field diaper patrols during these two big events this year.  Police officers will be required to wear adult diapers during their crowd control duties. The wearing of pants over the diapers would be optional, especially during the Folsom Fair.

Meanwhile, Scott Wiener, member of the Board of Supervisors representing the gay Castro District (District 8), said today he will be introducing a resolution to encourage participants and spectators for both the Pride Parade and Folsom Street Fair to also wear adult diapers. “This will greatly help with the lack of portable toilets during these big events and will save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars spent in renting these units,”  Wiener said.

Portable toilets cost the city anywhere from $150-$200 per unit. Handicap portable toilets cost even more, ranging from $300-$500 per unit.

So if you’re planning to be at this year’s Pride Parade and Folsom Street Fair, go get your adult diapers now at Costco or Target while they’re on sale!

PHILIPPINES VICE PRESIDENT WANTS TO CONVERT NATIONAL PENITENTIARY INTO PRESIDENTIAL PALACE

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Philippines’ National Penitentiary (New Bilibid Prison) in Metro Manila has been in the headlines recently after the Justice Department uncovered luxury prison cells occupied by incarcerated drug lords. Among other things, VIP (Very Important Prisoners) inmates had jacuzzis, sleep number beds, airconditioners, life-sized inflatable sex toys, even a recording studio.

Many have proposed that the goverment transfer the prison to an island surrounded by water, much like San Francisco’s famed Alcatraz prison.

Vice President Jejomar Binay, who continues to be the frontrunner among potential candidates for president in 2016, likes the idea of an island prison. So what does he want to do with the existing New Bilibid Prison building? He wants to convert it to a presidential palace to replace the existing one, Malacañang Palace.

“If I become president, I will relocate the presidential palace from its current location by the Pasig River to this historic and landmark prison building,” Binay said. “We don’t need to spend millions of pesos dismantling the luxury rooms and amenities at the New Bilibid Prison. We’ll spend less by just refurbishing the building and converting it to the new Malacañang,” he added.

The Vice President believes that relocating the presidential palace to the penitentiary will “bring the government closer to the people.”

“Besides, look at the facade of the building. It really looks like a castle and a palace,” Binay told reporters.

PHILIPPINES WILL BID TO HOST 2024 SUMMER OLYMPICS

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It could not bid to host a Winter Olympics because it has no winter season, so the Philippines is going for the Summer Olympics in 2024. It joins an elite group of developed countries and cities that have set their eyes on the next available open spot for Olympic host.

The Philippines’ announcement came on the heels of Tuesday’s meeting of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) during which four U.S. cities presented their bids to be the official U.S. city that would bid for the 2024 Olympics: San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Boston, and Los Angeles. The USOC is expected to make its selection in January.

Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino, in making the announcement about his country’s intention to bid, said that it would be his greatest legacy and accomplishment if the Philippines were chosen as host of the 2024 Olympics.

“It will be a multi-city effort,” Aquino said, “with world-class sports venues already built and located in various parts of Metro Manila, including Rizal Park (Luneta) in Manila, the Mall of Asia in Pasay City,  the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, and the new Philippine Arena in Bulacan.” Aquino added that Makati City will provide facilities for an upscale Olympic Village to host the athletes of the world.

“We just need to work on the mass transit network to make it easy for both athletes and spectators to travel from one venue to another,” Aquino added.

The Philippine Olympic  Committee is currently preparing its presentation to the International Olympic Committee when it formally opens the bidding process.  In addition to the U.S., other countries that have expressed intention to bid to host the Olympics include Germany, Japan, Argentina, Paris and Rome.

Aquino even revealed the elaborate plan for an Olympic Opening Ceremony featuring the prison inmates from Cebu City whose Michael Jackson dance videos have become one of the most viewed dance videos on YouTube.
