MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  The Philippine Inquirer is reporting that presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte is planning to visit The Vatican to ask Pope Francis for forgiveness.

The foul-mouthed mayor of Davao City, whose statements are punctuated by expletives, recently cursed Francis for creating a huge traffic jam during the Pontiff’s visit to Manila last year.  He has since regretted the unacceptable behaviour.

Upon learning of Duterte’s planned visit to The Vatican, Pope Francis posted the following message on his Facebook page:

“OMG, Duterte is coming to The Vatican! By the grace of God, he has finally come to his senses. I will be happy to give him a private audience, but I have long forgiven him for his nasty comments about me.”

Duterte is currently ranked No. 1 among the 5 major presidential candidates.  His visit to The Vatican will surely endear him to the millions of Filipino Catholic voters and could ensure his victory in the forthcoming elections in May.

Philippine Presidential Candidates Gear Up For Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival

imageBAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Some 2.5 Million people are expected to attend this year’s festivities for the annual Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City, the Philippines’ summer capital.

The month-long celebration of the blooming of flowers begins February 1st and will culminate in a grand street parade later in the month.

2016, of course, is presidential election year in the Philippines, and it would unwise for the candidates to ignore this enormous opportunity to campaign.

Today, The Adobo Chronicles has confirmed that all five major presidential candidates will participate in the street parade, and all have chosen their respective costumes and attires for the grand celebration

The five candidates are Vice President Jejomar Binay, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas (who will be parading with his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez), Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

While none of the candidates revealed their chosen costume, they allowed us to publish an artist’s rendition of how they will look like in the parade. (See photo)

Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya: “To Resign Or Not Is Up To God”

Abaya
Abaya

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Filipino politicians seem to have mastered the art of self-defense, that is, defense against criticism and the ire of the electorate. Leave it all to God.

That is exactly what Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya did when he announced today that he will quit his position — on one condition: that God agrees to it.

Abaya, President NoyNoy Aquino’s endeared colleague, has been in the hot seat for a long time due to the country’s mounting mass transportation problems — ranging from Metro Manila’s nightmarish traffic to the mismanagement of the MRT light railway to scams at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Abaya maintained that he would seek divine guidance as well as consult his wife and children first before making a final decision. “It is up to God,” he said.

The Filipino people are waiting for God’s answer!
