U.S. QUIET ABOUT PHILIPPINES’ ENTRY TO MR. WORLD 2014

Torbay, United Kingdom  (The Adobo Chronicles) – When Miss Philippines Megan Young won the title of Miss World last year, the United States protested, claiming that Young should have been considered a U.S. entry to the prestigious beauty pageant on the grounds that she was born in the U.S.

It’s a different story this year at the Mr. World Pageant held Sunday in Torbay, U.K.

Mr. Philippines, John Spainhour who is Filipino American, didn’t win the title. He didn’t even make it to the top 10 finalists.

Mr. America World, Inc.  the American franchise holder for the competition to select the U.S. representative to the Mr. World Pageant,  was unusually quiet and refused to answer reporters’ questions about whether it would also claim Spainhour as a U.S. entry like the U.S. did when Young won the crown.

The 2014 Mr. World title went to Denmark, with Nigeria and Mexico, taking the second and third spots, respectively.

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Filipino American music composer Robert Lopez may have started a possible winning streak for Filipinos in the much-coveted Oscar Award for Best Song, after winning in this year’s Academy Awards with his composition, ‘Let It Go,’ from the Disney movie Frozen.

The Philippines has yet to win an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, much less a nomination, but already, it has set its sight for the Best Original Song category, by submitting its official entry to the 2015 Oscars.

Although the song entry is not necessarily from a full-length film feature, the Philippines is hoping the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will bend its rules and consider a nomination for the Philippines’ extraordinary entry.

The song submission was composed by movie actor and Philippine Senator Bong Revilla, Jr., titled, “Salamat, Kaibigan”  (Thank you, friend). Revilla unveiled his composition during his privilege speech before the Philippine Senate, during which he proclaimed his innocence from charges of plunder in connection with the 10 Billion peso pork barrel scandal. He himself sang and recorded the song. He dedicated the song to all his supporters, believers and fans who continue to be on his side through thick and thin.

Revilla, along with other senators and congressmen, was among those indicted by the Philippine Ombudsman investigating the scam of siphoning taxpayer money into the pockets of politicians and businessmen. His arrest and detention may come any minute now.

KRIS AQUINO ADMITS TO A BROKEN HEART, BUT THE REASON IS NOT WHAT MOST PEOPLE THINK

imageQuezon City, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Philippine TV host and presidential sister Kris Aquino has publicly admitted she still has a broken heart. This, according to an Instagram message she sent to her fans as she took a day off from work yesterday.

Netizens immediately connected Kris’ broken heart to fellow movie actor and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista. It will be recalled that a few months back, Kris was romantically linked with Bautista. Their relationship was cut short with the mayor saying he would want to prioritize his children first.

However, sources close to Aquino told The Adobo Chronicles that Bautista has nothing to do with Kris’ broken heart. The TV host is devastated because the movie The Amazing Spiderman 2 was a huge box office success in the Philippines.

During a Singapore interview many weeks ago with Spiderman lead actor Andrew Garfield, Aquino boasted that no film – local or foreign – will ever surpass the opening-day box office success of My Little Bossings, a slapstick Filipino movie that starred Aquino’s son, Bimby.  As it turned out, Spiderman broke all box office records in the Philippines, grossing over 100 Million pesos in just its first two days of screenings.

“I am so embarrassed and devasted. My heart is broken. I should have just kept my big mouth shut,” Aquino was heard saying as she packed her bag and left work to take a day off.

She also took a break from her Instagram account.
