MAYWEATHER WITHDRAWS FROM REMATCH WITH MAIDANA, WILL FIGHT PACQUIAO INSTEAD

Las Vegas, Nevada (Exclusive to The Adobo Chronicles) – As temperatures in this desert city rose to a sweltering 113 degrees Farenheit (45 degrees Celsius), the hot news of the day was not about the September 13 boxing rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Argentine challenger Marcos Maidana. It was about the rematch being cancelled (Mayweather narrowly defeated Maidana last May).

Mayweather announced that he was withdrawing from the September fight at the MGM Grand arena and will instead face Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao on the exact same day. The much-awaited Mayweather- Pacquiao face-off will be held at the new Philippine Arena, now the world’s largest indoor arena.

For years, Mayweather has refused to fight Pacquiao because the Filipino congressman has repeatedly refused to undergo a blood test to screen for performance-enhancing drugs. Pacquiao has said that he becomes too weak whenever blood is drawn from him.

What changed?

Apparently, Mayweather is sick and tired of the dry heat that is characteristic of Las Vegas, especially in the summer months. Yesterday, Mayweather  hang up his boxing gloves during his training bout in an undisclosed location on the Las Vegas Strip, complaining about the extreme heat, even with indoor airconditioning.

But the deal breaker for Mayweather was the fact that the Philippine church group, Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ), offered to increase his prize money – win or lose – for a match with Pacquiao.

Iglesia Ni Cristo owns the 60,000-capacity Philippine Arena located just a few miles north of Manila.

As for the weather in the Philippines, Mayweather was assured that temperatures in September average about 80 degrees Farenheit (26 degrees Celsius) which the Amercan boxer finds to be the perfect weather for his fights.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is being billed as ‘Extreme Weatha in Manila,’ following in the footsteps of the infamous  ‘Thrilla in Manila ‘ between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazer.

‘LET IT GO’ FROM ‘FROZEN’ BACK ON TOP OF THE CHARTS, THANKS TO MANNY PACQUIAO

photo (6)Los Angeles, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For a while, most people thought that the Oscar-winning song ‘Let It Go’ from the Disney film ‘Frozen’ has all but been forgotten. Many on social media have posted comments like, “If I hear that song one more time …”

Well, it’s baaaack! Thanks to world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao who is also a Philippine congressman and a karaoke addict, has recorded the hit song in Los Angeles. It will be released in a few weeks as a single and producers are predicting it to go platinum.

Although Pacquiao’s cover of the song hasn’t yet been released, the original recording by Idina Menzel, a.k.a. Adele Dazeem, has already climbed back to number one in the music charts.  Critics are saying that once the Pacquiao version is out, it would easily replace the Menzel original in  the top spot.

The producers of the Pacquiao single have come up with a brilliant promo campaign featuring Drake, the popular Canadian recording artist, rapper, songwriter, and actor.  In the promo video, Drake mimics Pacquiao recording the song

“We want to have a surprise element, so we decided that the promo video would not show Pacquiao himself,” the producers said. “We want fans to build up expectation and excitement for the real thing,” they added.

MANNY PACQUIAO SNUBS PHILIPPINE VICE PRESIDENT’S INVITATION TO BE HIS RUNNING MATE

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – In 2016, the Filipino people will elect a new president to succeed NoyNoy Aquino whose 6-year term expires that year.

While many politicians have hinted about running for president, no one has been more straightforward and definite about his presidential ambition than the current vice president, Jejomar Binay.  After all, it is in his family’s blood.  Binay’s son Jejomar, Jr. is the mayor of Makati City and his two daughters Nancy and Abigail are members of the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively.

This early, Binay has already formed a new political party called the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and has been quoted as saying in media reports that boxing champion Manny Pacquiao will be included in his new party’s senatorial lineup.  Pacquiao currently sits as a member of the House of Representatives.

In a Skype interview today with The Adobo Chronicles, Pacquiao vehemently denied that he was running for senator under Binay’s new party. “How is that possible, when my intention is to run for president,” Pacquiao said.

Binay’s strategy was to try to get Pacquiao to run for an elective post other than president, so that he (Binay) will run unopposed by a very formidable candidate such as the boxer congressman.  With his enormous popularity and wealth (pre-tax), Pacquiao’s odds of winning the presidential post in a nationwide election are better than 10 to 1, in his favor.

Binay is reportedly considering Senator Jinggoy Estrada who is now in jail facing plunder charges to be his vice presidential running mate.   Pacquiao, on the other hand, has hinted he might ask actress Nora Aunor to be his running mate.  (In the Philippines, the vice president is elected independently of the president, unlike in the U.S. where a vote for the president is also a vote for the vice president.)
