Hollywood, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Following the U.S. Government’s confirmation that North Korea was responsible for the cyber attack on Sony Pictures, Hollywood actor James Franco announced that he was changing his name, effectively immediately.

The attack on Sony, conducted by a group calling itself the Guardians of Peace, exposed a number of embarrassing emails between producers and top executives at the movie studio. The group said it was targeting Sony because of its film “The Interview,” a comedy about a pair of American journalists sent to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Franco is one of the lead actors in the film.  The other is Seth Rogen.

“I am changing my name for personal security reasons but also because I like the sound of “James Flacco,”  Franco said.  President Barack Obama referred to Franco as Flacco at this morning’s White House press conference during which the president confirmed that  the government of Kim Jong Un was responsible for the cyber attack against Sony.

MANNY PACQUIAO TO STAR IN STALLONE FILM ‘THE EXPENDABLES 4’

imageHollywood, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Now we know why Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenneger were at ringside during the boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri in Macau, China last week. The Hollywood actors wanted to recruit Pacquiao to star in the 4th installment of the film series, ‘The Expendables.’

The new film, ‘The Expendables 4’ starts production soon and will be filmed in the Philippines. It is a sequel to ‘The Expendables 3.’

‘The Expendables 3’  is a 2014 American ensemble action film directed by Patrick Hughes, and written by Creighton Rothenberger, Katrin Benedikt, and Sylvester Stallone. It is a sequel to the 2012 action film ‘The Expendables 2. ‘ The film features returning cast members Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Kelsey Grammer, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell, Victor Ortiz, Robert Davi, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story follows the mercenary group known as “The Expendables” as they come into conflict with ruthless arms dealer Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), the Expendables’ co-founder, who is determined to destroy the team.

In a report by Morrison Hennigan of The Movie Daily,  Manny Pacquiao will play the role of a “vicious rebel general” in the new film.

Deal Breaker

The entire negotiation between Stallone and Pacquiao happened in the locker room just after the fight. Pacquiao will be paid $40 Million for the film role, twice the amount he earned from his championship fight against Algieri.

But The Adobo Chronicles learned that the real deal breaker was Pacquiao’s demand for him to sing and record the theme song of the new movie. At first Stallone hesitated but then Schwarzenneger convinced him to agree to Pacquiao’s demand  and so the deal was signed.

Pacquiao is known for his passion in karaoke singing.

HOLLYWOOD ACTRESSES PLAN GENDER DISCRIMINATION PROTEST MARCH OVER SUPERHERO FILMS

Hollywood, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – A group of famous Hollywood actresses is planning a protest march next week to highlight what they call the pervasive gender discrimination by film studios as it relates to superhero films.  The group, headed by Halle Berry, will begin the march at 5pm on May 26 at the corner of Santa Monica and La Cienega Boulevards in West Hollywood and conclude in front of the historic Mann’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.  There, Berry and other famous actresses like Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Emma Stone and Charlize Theron will take turns in denouncing the misogynistic culture among Hollywood film producers.

The core of the protest is based on superhero feature films which continue to dominate blockbuster performances and box office revenue.  Berry said that the  ‘Catwoman’ remains to be the only major Hollywood film feature that starred a female superhero.  Berry played the title role in the 2004 movie. “In contrast,” she said, “there have been scores of male superhero films and sequels in the last several decades.”

There have been at least ten ‘Batman’ major films, six ‘Superman’ films, four ‘Spiderman’ films and 3 ‘Captain America’ films, not to mention the anticipated 2014 sequels to ‘Spiderman,’ ‘Captain America’ and ‘Superman.’ These do not include animated super hero films and series.

Emma Stone, who co-stars with Andrew Garfield in the latest ‘Spiderman’ movie, says she is dying to play ‘Wonder Woman.’ Outside of the 1970’s television series featuring Lynda Carter, there has never been a single ‘Wonder Woman’ Hollywood film feature. “What’s up with that,” Stone said.

In its prepared manifesto, the group said that unless Hollywood gives women equal opportunity to play super heroines and be the lead in upcoming film productions, Hollywood actresses will start to boycott, and refuse to appear in, any Hollywood productions.

“We’re tired of waiting,” Hathaway said. “We want lead super heroine roles now!”
