WORLD’S PROSTITUTES CELEBRATE THEIR YEAR

imageLondon, Great Britain – It is estimated that there are 42 Million people across the globe who are engaged in the oldest profession in the world. Majority of prostitutes are between the ages of 13 and 25 and about 80% are female.

Venezuela is believed to be the top country with the most prostitutes, followed by South Korea, Peru, Philippines and Nigeria. Completing the top 10 countries are China, Brazil, Malaysia, Germany and Thailand.

2014 may be the ‘Year of the Horse’ in the lunar calendar, but according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), it is also the “Year of the Whores.”

Prostitutes interviewed by The Adobo Chronicles did not even know they had their own special year but were excited that their beloved profession is “finally getting the recognition it deserves.”

And so, the year-long celebration begins!

BIKINIS WILL BE BANNED IN WAIKIKI BEACH ON SUNDAYS

imageHonolulu, Hawaii – Nestled in the midst of Waikiki’s high-rise hotels and condos, St. Augustine By The Sea is less than imposing, but this Catholic Church on Kalakaua Avenue directly across from the beach sure knows how to exert its religious influence over Honolulu’s City Hall.

A new ordinance will soon go into effect banning bikinis and other skimpy swimwear on Sundays along a wide stretch of Waikiki beach – from the Waikiki Aquarium across Kapiolani Part to the Sheraton Moana Hotel (see map).

imageThe Catholic Archdiocese of Honolulu has convinced lawmakers that this stretch of the beach should be void of bikini-clad tourists who are in plain view of Sunday churchgoers. “We want our congregation members and visiting Catholics to be free of worldy distractions as they approach or leave the church and participate in our Sunday services,” a spokesperson for the Archdiocese said. The Sunday ban will be imposed from 6am to 6pm.

Independent merchants, particularly individuals renting out surfboards, beach umbrellas and beach chaise lounges along that stretch of Waikiki beach have protested the ordinance, but the influencial  Catholic Church, as expected, has prevailed.

This is the first-known bikini ban on the beach anywhere in the world. Vietri Sul Mare, a small Italian beachside town in the Amalfi Coast,  has a bikini ban but it only applies to areas outside of the beach.

WILL THE ‘UNDOCUMENTED’ ROSE FOSTANES PLEASE STEP FORWARD?

imageTel Aviv, Israel – The  story of  a Filipina caregiver who captivated the world for winning the first-ever X Factor Israel this week is one of “rags to riches.” After winning the singing competition, 47-year old Rose Fostanes is on her way to recording contracts and professional gigs that would pay millions of dollars.

But, STOP THE PRESSES!

While Fostanes the caregiver is documented in Israel, Fostanes the singer is not. Like with most immigration laws anywhere in the world, foreign nationals are granted work permits to get paid for the specific jobs that they were recruited for. In Fostanes’ case, she can legally work in Israel only as a caregiver.

This means that Fostanes cannot get paid for recording contracts or professional concerts and appearances within Israel.  This has become a big dilemma for the producers of X Factor Israel.

But no worries. The producers have come up with a brilliant idea to skirt around the country’s immigration laws.

Beginning next week, Fostanes will go on a road tour throughout Israel, visiting hospitals and convalescent homes, singing for the sick and elderly. All her appearances will be televised and she will get paid for it.

“We will be paying her as a caregiver, not as a singer,” the producers said, “so we will not be violating any Israeli law or the conditions of her legal work permit.

All’s well that ends well.
