KALIBO, Aklan (The Adobo Chronicles, Iloilo Bureau) – It’s that time of year when Kalibo transforms into a mardi-gras world to celebrate the Ati-Atihan Festival, commemorating the feast of the Sto. Niño, or the child Jesus.
The Catholic Church — despite the festival’s commercialization for decades now — maintains that Ati-Atihan remains, and should remain, a religious festival.
And so, when a Mr. and Miss Bikini Open was held in conjunction with the festivities, Fr. Joesel Quan cried ‘foul.’ He bemoaned the attire of the contestants.
However, a young altar boy close to Fr. Quan, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Adobo Chronicles that the real reason the priest was concerned and disappointed was because the chosen bikini attires of the contestants were not ‘revealing enough.’

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – This year and in years past, many have criticized the chosen national costume of the Philippines’ representatives to the Miss Universe Pageant.
Well, it’s not going to happen again.
Binibining Pilipinas organizers have assured the public that henceforth, the national costume of Miss Philippines-Universe will “reflect our true culture and identity.”
For next next year’s Miss Philippines-Universe, the organizers have chosen an ethnic attire representative of the Gaddang ethnic group of Northern Philippines.
The chosen national costume was unveiled yesterday in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao with no less than Leni Robredo as the model.
Do we have a winner national costume for next year’s Miss Universe Pageant?
