EARLY POLLS POINT TO A FEMALE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago

Manila, Philippines – Speaking at an International Women’s Day celebration in the Philippines this week,  Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said that the next president of the Philippines should be female. If recent nationwide polls will hold up, Santiago may be right, and it could be her.

“We’ve had 13 male and only two female presidents so far. The Philippines has had a total of 15 presidents. To achieve equality between males and females, since we have had 13 males, the next 11 presidents should be female,” she said. She added:  “research shows that when women are empowered as political leaders, countries often experience higher standards of living with positive developments in education, infrastructure, and health care.”

In a nationwide poll conducted by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Santiago was the runaway winner among all the other potential female presidential candidates in 2016, or as they are called in the Philippines, “presidentiables.”  Santiago was the top choice of 76.59% of those polled, while the runner-up was Senator Grace Poe, with a distant 10.68%.  Incumbent Justice Secretary Leila de Lima came in third with 5.57%.  Other female presidentiables got less than 3%.

But how does Santiago stack up against the leading male presidentiables?

The Adobo Chronicles conducted its own nationwide poll pitting Santiago against incumbent Vice President Jojo Binay and Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.  Binay has kept no secret his intention to succeed President NoyNoy Aquino who is constitutionally barred from seeking another term.  Roxas, on the other hand, has been constantly mentioned in the political and media circles whenever the 2016 elections are brought up.

Here are the results of AdoboChron’s poll which has a margin of error of plus or minus 3%:

Miriam Defensor-Santiago , 97%

Vice President Jojo Binay, 1.2%

DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, 1.0%

The remaining poll votes were equally divided among write-in candidates, namely, Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., Congressman Manny Pacquiao, and Television host Vhong Navarro.

PHILIPPINE MAYOR PLANS TICKER TAPE PARADE TO CELEBRATE HIS CITY’S SELFIE WORLD RECORD.

imageMakati City, Philippines – Makati is known as the Wall Street of the Philippines , a financial hub where towering offices, hotels and condos dwarf the squatter shanties just a stone’s throw away. It is also known for its feisty mayor Junjun Binay, son of the incumbent vice president and brother to two other Binays, a senator and a congresswoman.

Mayor Binay was recently embroiled in a controversy where he tried to bully his way into a private upscale residential village because he wanted a shorter, traffic- free route to his destination. When the village security guards refused passage to the mayor’s convoy, he made sure the security guards were “invited” to the local police precint for questioning.

But that controversy is gone now and the mayor is buoyed up by news that Makati has achieved a prestigious world record – the number one spot in fact – which he attributes to his administration. Makati has just been named top ‘selfie capital’ of the world, according to Instagram records. Makati topped the list with 258 selfie takers per 100,000 people. Makati has a population of 500,000.

To celebrate this great honor, Mayor Binay has declared March 14 as a city-wide holiday with a ticker tape parade scheduled at 11 am. Binay is urging all Makati residents to take to the streets that day and not to leave their homes without their smart phones. According to Binay’s brilliant plan, at exactly 12 noon, all parade participants and spectators will be asked to take a selfie with their smart phones. Apparently, Binay is aiming for another world record, the most number of selfies taken at the exact same time.

Pasig, a Metro Manila suburb was named top selfie capital, along with Makati, but Pasig residents don’t think it is such a big deal. The same sentiment has been expressed by Cebu City in Central Philippines which was ranked number 9 in the world. So no ticker tape parade or holidays in either Pasig or Cebu.

THE REAL ADELE DAZEEM EXPOSED, TURNS OUT TO BE FILIPINA

elsa-frozen-cartoon-mobile-wallpaper-1080x1920-3514-4289924720Hollywood, California – John Travolta didn’t make a goof after all on Oscar night.  Everybody knows by now how Travolta introduced actress/singer Idina Menzel as ‘Adele Dazeem’ when she sang ‘Let It Go,’ the nominated song from the Disney animated film, ‘Frozen.’

It turns out that prior to Oscar night, Travolta was rehearsing his lines for his introduction of Menzel.  Being the professional that he is, Travolta wanted to listen to the nominated song so that he could come up with a better introduction.  So he went on YouTube and typed in ‘Let It Go.’ A video came up of a Filipina housewife singing the song.  Her name was Adele Dazeem.

Travolta was so mesmerized by the song and the Filipina singer that up till Oscar night, the name Adele Dazeem was stuck in his head. In all fairness, Travolta came up with a great introduction, saying “the wickedly talented…”

The Oscar-winning song’s co-composer, Robert Lopez, is Filipino American.

This is the video that Travolta viewed on YouTube.
