No Internet Throughout Entire Philippines On May 8 & 9

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – If you will be surfing the Internet on Sunday and Monday, May 8 & 9, you will notice that you will not be able to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media accounts anywhere you are in the Philippines. It has something to do with the Philippine elections.

According to the rules of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), candidates are prohibited from campaigning the day before and the day of the elections. The last day for campaigning is Saturday, May 7th.  It is when all candidates will be holding their final rallies, or ‘miting de avance.’

But in this Internet world and the accessibility to social media, it would be almost impossible for the COMELEC to monitor unlawful campaign activities which may be done by candidates and their supporters through Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and other social media accounts.

So, to ensure that there will be no campaign violations, Internet connectivity will be shut down throughout the entire Philippines from 12:01 a.m. on May 8 until 11:59 p.m. on May 9.

If candidates or their supporters have last-minute appeals to the voters, they are advised to do so before the strike of midnight on May 8.

Hurry!

HONOLULU, Hawaii (The Adobo Chronicles, Hawaii Bureau) – Move over, Philippine carrot man, you’ve got some serious competition in Hawaii.

Many will recall the young man from the Philippines’ Mountain Province, Jeyrick Sigmaton, whose snap shot photo went viral because of his good looks.  The rest is history, as Sigmaton now appears on television and has earned a modeling career.

Sigmaton

Now, another Internet sensation is brewing.  He’s not just a carrot man, he’s also a banana and green veggie man.  His name is Chris Lee, from the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

We doubt, however, that he will leave his day job for a career in modeling or film and TV.  He is a state legislator, representing Kailua and Waimanalo.

Well, if his photo goes viral worldwide, he might just reconsider! So, share away…

Poor Kris Aquino, She Had To Walk Three Kilometers To Get To A Campaign Rally

imageHAGONOY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – She was panting so hard and could hardly deliver her campaign speech on behalf of the Liberal Party’s presidential standard bearer, Mar Roxas.  She had to walk all of three kilometers to get to the site of the political rally.

“She” is none other than presidential sister and talk show host Kris Aquino who has received a lot of flak after photos of her using the presidential chopper for her campaign sorties went viral on the Internet.

She appealed to the crowd to defend her.

Earlier, President Aquino defended his sister saying that she had the right to use the taxpayer-funded  presidential chopper because she is one of the country’s biggest taxpayers.

The Aquino camp has consistently denied that Kris used the government chopper for campaigning which is prohibited by law.

Yet, in her very own words, she said she was on board the presidential chopper enroute to the Hagonoy campaign rally when she decided to open the door, get off and  just walk the three kilometers so that the crowd won’t have to wait any longer for her campaign appearance.

Straight from the horse’s mouth, here is Kris Aquino’s admission:
