SEOUL, South Korea (The Adobo Chronicles) – Two incidents involving Asian entertainers at the Los Angeles International Airport were exposed today which have to do with the groups being denied entry into the United States.

A South Korean group is alleging that U.S. authorities denied them entry at Los Angeles International Airport, suspecting they were sex workers.

“Oh My Girl,” an eight-member South Korean girl band, was held at LAX for more than 15 hours on Wednesday while being questioned by officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to a statement released by the group’s South Korean management company.

Similarly, the Philippines’ most popular television love team known as AlDub was also reportedly refused entry for a different reason.  The duo was suspected of intending to overstay their tourist visas and become what is popularly known in the Filipino American community as TNT or ‘Tago Ng Tago’ (always hiding).

The K-Pop was supposed to attend a promotional event in L.A. while The AlDub duo was scheduled to appear at a Philippine  Tourism event in the City of Angels.

Contacted by The Adobo Chronicles,  the Customs and Border Patrol said it cannot comment on individual visa or entry cases.

Meanwhile, there are reports at AlDub’s millions of fans are scheduled to hold a protest rally at Luneta Park, just a stone’s throw away from the U.S. Embassy in Manila, to express their disappointment and anger at U.S. Immigration.

As a result of recent terrorist incidents in the U.S., many legislators are considering a review of the U.S. Visa Waiver Program that allows citizens of certain countries (like South Korea) to visit the country for a certain peiod of time without the need for a visa. (The Philippines is not part of the Visa Waiver Program).

We can blame it all on Donald Trump and his campaign rhetoric!

PHILIPPINES: STREET VENDORS BANNED FROM SELLING BALUT AND CHICKEN FEET

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Vendors seem to be under attack in some countries in Asia.

The government of Singapore recently announced that beginning in 2017, vendors will no longer to able to display cigarettes in their stalls. The new law is aimed at preventing young kids from taking up smoking. All too often, young people are exposed to this unhealthy addiction through point-of-sale displays of cigarettes.

Following Singapore’s lead, Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino, upon the joint recommendation of the Health and Tourism Departments, issued an executive order banning the display and sale of chicken feet by sidewalk vendors.  Fried chicken feet, similar to those served in Chinese dim sum, is a popular and inexpensive street food in the country.

The same executive order prohibits eating balut (boiled duck embryo) in public. It may still be sold by street vendors but can only be consumed in the privacy of people’s homes.

In issuing the order, Aquino said he hopes that the ban will not only improve the health of Filipinos but also boost tourism by creating a better Philippine image in the eyes of foreign visitors who can not stand the sight of chicken feet and balut.

The order is in keeping with the administration’s mantra of daang matuwid (street, uhm, straight path).

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Speaking at the penthouse suite of the Trump Towers in Las Vegas, Republican presidential candidate announced that he is now accepting business proposals for the production of fool-proof U.S. national identification cards that will help keep Muslims and other “undesirable” people out of American territory.

Trump’s announcement came just minutes after calling for a “total and complete shutdown” of the entry of Muslims to the United States “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

In a statement released by his campaign Monday afternoon, Trump included recent poll findings that he says show that a sizable segment of the Muslim population has “great hatred towards Americans.”

Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told the Associated Press that the ban would apply to “everybody,” including both immigrants and tourists. Soon after the statement was released, Trump tweeted that he had “just put out a very important policy statement on the extraordinary influx of hatred and danger coming into our country.” He added in the tweet: “We must be vigilant.”

Trump said he is being proactive by calling for national ID business proposals now, instead of waiting until he gets elected president of the United States in November next year. “I want to put everything in motion now, ready to go on my first day in the Oval Office,” the real estate mogul said.

Business entrepreneurs interested in sending business proposals to Trump should download an application form at http://www.TrumpAgainstMuslims.com.  Only U.S. citizens and non-Muslims can submit proposals.
