CEBU CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A Filipino broadcast journalist was ordered deported from his native country after being proclaimed “persona non grata” by the Philippines’ Bureau of Immigration (BOI).

The deportation order came just hours after the conclusion of the second Philippine presidential debate held in Cebu City last night.

Teddy Locsin, Jr.  used social media to criticize the debate, particularly candidates Senator Grace Poe and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.

Locsin said that the exchange between the two candidates was  “lousy” because they used “too much” Tagalog, even referring to the language as “inappropriate” for a debate.

Locsin said, “The sagutan between Poe and Mar is lousy because they used too much Tagalog, a language inappropriate to pointed debate, circular shi***.”

President Noynoy Aquino who always delivers his speeches in Tagalog, signed the deportation order.

English is the Philippines’ second language used by the country’s major newspapers and many news broadcasts including CNN Philippines.

Philippine President Aquino Seeks A One-Month Extension Of His Expiring Term

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino’s 6-year term of office ends at noon on June 30th when the new president elected in the May 9 elections takes his or her oath of office.

Aquino, who is barred by the Constitution from seeking another term, has enjoyed living in Malacañang Palace and does not want to leave.  At best, he could extend his term through some technicality, which is exactly what he is doing in connivance with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

The COMELEC is thinking about moving the May 9 polls to the first week of June or later, following a decision by the Supreme Court ordering the poll body to issue voting receipts as a way of making the election process transparent.  The COMELEC said the decision will require reconfiguring more than 92,500 SD memory cards, bidding out the procurement of thermal paper and receipt receptacles and retraining election inspectors.

The poll body said that between the vote counting and the certification process for the winning candidates, the new president may not be able to be inaugurated in time for June 30th as stated in the Constitution.  The certification process will be further delayed if any of the losing candidates would file a protest or petition for a vote re-count.

The COMELEC said that July 30 would be a more reasonable date for the new president’s inauguration, which means Aquino will remain president for an extra 30 days, to which he is not complaining.

If this happens, Aquino will go down in history as the only president with an extended term, other than Ferdinand E. Marcos who declared Martial Law and ended up being president for 20  years.

After Failing To Tax Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach’s Miss Universe Crown, BIR’s Kim Henares Goes After AlDub

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – AlDub, the popular noontime TV love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza—has become the country’s hottest endorser of consumer products. In just seven months since its debut on TV in July 2015, AlDub’s combined earnings have reached P200 million—based on conservative estimates by sources interviewed by Inquirer Lifestyle.

The revelation caught the attention of the Philippines’ chief tax woman, Commissioner of the Bureau Internal Revenue (BIR) Kim Henares who is known for her tough stance in going after celebrities for the purposes of taxing their earnings. Among Herares’ celebrity pursuits is Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.

When Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach first returned to Manila after winning the pageant, Henares wanted to tax the $300,000 crown worn by the Filipino queen. Naturally Henares was unsuccessful because Wurtbach’s crown was just “on loan” for the duration of her reign as Miss Universe.

So when Henares learned of the advertising earnings of Richards and Mendoza, the BIR commissioner wasted no time in issuing a summons to the two celebrities, asking them to appear in her office with certified true copies of their earnings statements so that she could accurately calculate the taxes owed by the couple.

The timing of the summons was questioned by some of the presidential candidates who hinted that the Aquino administration’s candidate, Mar Roxas, needed some campaign funds infusion for his weak showing in national polls. But The Adobo Chronicles could not independently confirm whether Henares’ move was related to Roxas’ campaign.
