#DollarParaKayLeni Launched In San Francisco

IMG_2901SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – It’s been a almost a year since a fundraising campaign was launched to help Leni Robredo shoulder the costs of former Senator Bongbong Marcos’ electoral protest questioning the legitimacy of the Vice President’s win in last year’s elections.

Previously, the Supreme Court required both Marcos and Robredo to pay a deposit in order to make the vote recount happen.  Marcos had to pay P66 million, while Robredo, P15 million.

Unconfirmed reports show that since the launch of “PisoParaKayLeni,” the total amount raised has only been about P400,000, a long ways to the P15 million Robredo needed to come up with.

And so, Leni’s FilAm supporters are coming to the rescue, launching a new campaign, “DollarParaKayLeni.”  The goal is to raise the rest of the P15 million Robredo needs.

Launched in San Francisco’ s Union Square, the stateside fundraising campaign hopes that kind-hearted Leni supporters will contribute at least a dollar each.

“A dollar goes a long way,” organizer Rodel Dimagiba said, “since the current U.S. Dollar-PH Peso exchange rate is almost 50 to 1. That’s 50 times more that we can raise for Leni than the one peso contribution by Leni’s supporters in the Philippines.”

The Supreme Court, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal will start the preliminary conference on Marcos’ petition on Tuesday, July 11.

Update On Leni’s Boston Garbage-Diving: Who’s That Man In Blue T-Shirt?

IMG_2523BOSTON, Massachusetts (Exclusive to The Adobo Chronicles) – Previously, we reported that the Boston Police Department is investigating whether or not Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo violated U.S. law by admitting during her radio show that she went garbage-diving in search of usable items for her daughter’s apartment.

Boston Police had asked the help of concerned citizens by providing them with photos or CCTV videos that would possibly implicate Robredo in a criminal offense, including trespassing.

Today, the police department released a photo it received from an anonymous source showing a man in blue t-shirt garbage-diving into a trash bin in the same neighborhood where Robredo’s daughter’s apartment is located.

The man closely resembles the person who was helping the Vice President assemble some furniture in her daughter’s apartment.  It was a photo that Robredo herself posted on her Facebook page.

If it is the same man, then Robredo has a lot to answer for as the police investigation continues.

City Of Boston To Investigate Philippines VP Leni Robredo Over Her Claims Of Garbage Diving

IMG_2520.PNGBOSTON, Massachusetts (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – In her recent radio program ‘BISErbisyong Leni,’ Philippines Vice President said that during her two-day stay in Boston to help her daughter settle in her apartment, they picked garbage in search of  usable items.  It is a practice called ‘garbage diving.’ (Robredo’s daughter starts school at Harvard this semester.)

Now, the City of Boston is planning to investigate Robredo for a possible criminal act.

While in general, U.S. courts have ruled that garbage diving is not illegal, it all depends on local ordinances promulgated by cities and states.

Garbage diving is not illegal in Boston EXCEPT when the garbage bins are located inside private property, in which case it would constitute trespassing which is defintely against U.S. Law.

The Boston Police Department is appealing to residents who may have witnessed the Reobredos’ garbage diving to contact its offices. Investigators are now also going through dozens of CCTV tapes looking for evidence that could implicate the VP in the commission of a crime.

Moral of the story: sometimes, it’s best to just shut up!
